New York socialite Astor dies at 105

NEW YORK - Brooke Astor, the civic leader, philanthropist and high society fixture who gave away nearly $200 million to support New York City's great cultural institutions and a host of humbler projects, died Monday. She was 105.

OMG! Are those REAL emeralds? That is the most beautiful necklace I’ve ever seen. I don’t think Queen Elizabeth has anything that beautiful. RIP, Mrs. Astor.

And here’s one for trivia geniuses: a friend of mine just made the claim that Brooke Astor was the oldest celebrity on earth. It’s a bit of a subjective question, but I would say it’s probably true.
