Duncan Hunter here Today!
GoHunter08 | 8/13/07 | pissant

Posted on 08/13/2007 10:16:09 AM PDT by pissant

Folks, Sam Hunter has confirmed a time of 1:00 PM Pacific Time, today, August 13 for Congressman Duncan Hunter to join us live.

I will post our original list of questions with his answers to kick the thread off at that time.

Follow-ups are welcome. But please be cognizant that an hours time will not allow many to be answered. Though the Congressman will try to follow up later for those left unaddressed.

Also, the moderators will be watching out for disruptors. So behave or don't come on the thread.

Thanks in advance.

No. You find hero worship on Fredthreads. You find mature, patriotic, care what is happening to your country concerns on Hunter threads.

Somehow we should be able to fit those words into a parody sung to the tune of “Danger Mouse”.

But that’s just me. I have a very simple mind.

I hope the mods wield an iron fist, especially regarding personal insults of the candidate and very especially, no Ron Paul nuttery.

Agreed. Let’s keep it civil folks. Rep. Hunter is our guest, and even if you support someone else, let’s give this guy our fullest respect. If you want to ask tough questions, that’s fine, in fact it’s part of the process. We’re not Democratic Underground here— let’s give Rep. Hunter our attention and give him a nice welcome.

My schedule doesn’t even permit me to take part, but I hope to see it go well. A success could lead to other events with this or other candidates.

Ahem, right.

Sun, you don’t need to worry about my “polluting” the live thread with inconvenient questions directed to Rep. Hunter which don’t follow the script. By 4 PM EST, I’ll be weedeating my lawn and replacing some underground piping.

Titus knows the answer. There ain’t no THERE -— there!

Too bad we don’t have some other candidates besides Duncan Hunter who has nothing to hide.

I have a great boardgame called, “Balderdash”. You’d be good at it.

That sounds like hero worship....

Unlike your boy, our man does not have to be an actor to appear a hero.

What were you planning on doing, slander? Hunter has no connections to the Cunningham scandal. The only connection that they had beyond both being Republican congressmen was that they served neighboring districts.

For heavens sake, show up, pay attention. Learn what a real conservative with a real voting record and record of ACCOMPLISHING something looks like.

Do you think America is served more by acting and lawyering than by one serving his country in combat?

Whether or not one favors Hunter as the best candidate, his life stands out as one of service to his country.

please do not be shrill.

Some of us do not support him for the number one slot but in the event he is a potential to be tapped for the VP slot, do you really want to turn people off so much as to make him unselectable?

Just saying, lets all be calm, polite, ask real subtantive questions and observe.

If this goes well there is no reason other subtantial candidates can not do the same thing.

A question for Duncan Hunter: Mr. Hunter, you have been a U.S. House Representative since 1980, so do you believe in eventually creating term limits for all of Congress, and is the idea of term limits for politicians mostly good or mostly bad for all politicians at every level?

Too bad we don’t have some other candidates besides Duncan Hunter who has nothing to hide.

Of course he's got nothing to hide - he's spend 26 years in the House as a career politician hiding out in a safe re-election zone, supporting and voting for bills that benefit his constituents.

What's sad in all this is that I actually DO like DH. If he somehow wins the nomination, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. In the primaries, he's my 2nd choice, and that's only because he really doesn't stand much of a chance of winning. Even when I talk with people who are more knowledgable than average about politics, the response I always get when speaking of him is "Duncan who"? It's important that the candidate be conservative, but it's also important that he we known and liked anough to be electable. Ignoring the issue of electability is like ignoring the issue of laying a foundation when you're building a house.

No, I like DH. What galls me is the way his supporters seem like they want to gloss over any and every question about their candidate that in any way appears to be anything other than abject hero-worship of the man. He's just a man, like anyone else. He can be questioned like anyone else. Sure, Duncanistas want to attack everyone eyse, but say a word about DH's record that doesn't involve building a wall or voting for umpteen billions for the armed forces, and suddenly they're howling about how unpatriotic it is to question DH.

But I think it is indeed fair to ask what, if any, links DH had to Duke Cunningham. After all, they WERE good buddies in Congress and in SoCal. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but if its within bounds to suggest that FDT really just wants to sell the USA out to illegal immigrants because he's friends with John McCain, then it's equally fair to make an inquiry or two into DH's ties to one of the most corrupt politicians we've had since the Grant administration, doncha think? If nothing else so that DH can address it and put it to bed? Because, if we don't ask it now, Hillary WILL ask it, if DH manages to win the nomination.

It's fair to ask about FDT's former support for CFR, and it's fair to inquire about answers he gave about abortion a decade and a half ago. The questions were asked, and FDT has answered. If we're really serious about a candidate, we HAVE to ask all the dirty, nasty, embarrasing questions NOW. If we don't now, the Dems will later.
