A Hil Of A Liability! If She Gets Nod, Other Democrats Could Be Hurt, Party Leaders Fear

Looking past the presidential nomination, Democratic leaders quietly fear that Sen. Hillary Clinton at the top of their 2008 ticket could hurt candidates at the bottom.

They say the former First Lady may be too polarizing for much of the country.

In more than 40 interviews, Democratic candidates, consultants and party chairmen form every region pointed to internal polls that give Clinton strikingly high unfavorable ratings in places with key congressional and state races.

"I'm not sure it would be fatal in Indiana, but she would be a drag," said Indiana Democratic state rep. Dave Crooks.

Speaking anonymously, a Midwest state chairman called Clinton a nightmare for congressional and state legislative candidates, and a congressman from the west said she is the Democratic candidate most likely to cost him his seat.

One strategist urged Senate candidates in competitive races to distance themselves from Clinton.

Will Democrats distance themselves now, though?

I imagine that that will/would come later...

As Mark (MAXI)Shields said recently, “Republicans have to fall in line, Democrats have to fall in love [with a candidate]”.....

I’m one of the few that didn’t believe Hillary Clinton would stay in this through the primaries because of the historical record negative numbers associated with her.

Guess I was wrong about that....(chuckle)

Bottom line is if she’s the candidate, the Democrats run the risk of losing on a scale not seen since Mondale got his ass kicked by Reagan in 1984.

Its possible it could be worse.

From the article:

“In a recent poll, a whopping 49% has an unfavorable view of Clinton...”

Was forced to watch CNN a few minutes this AM while waiting for car repair van to leave.

They were trying really hard to downplay this and stated as amatter of fact that the more Hillary talked to people in primary states the better they liked her. CNN doing what it does best..shilling for the RATS and first and foremost for the Clintons.

Hildebeast=polarizing

Of course, when I watch the Demos on TV debates, the other candidates make her look like the best of the crop. That is scary.

For better or worse, she is the face of the Democrats.

I still remember her being the first to put a scornful puss up on national TV during one of GWB’s major speeches (was it the SOU?)

She started the Bush-bashing and negativity-without-an-alternative, and she’s going to have to live with it.

How many people will vote for Hillary! Rodham (Clinton) and then vote for 'Pubbies down the ticket because they don't trust her without a divided government?

If Hillary! Rodham (Clinton) is going to start steering the nation toward the ditch, gridlock is going to start looking pretty good.

(Not that I don't already...)

Which is exactly why we stand a great chance of electing a true conservative in 2008.

This article is an example of the Obama wing of the Associated Press fighting back against the Hillary wing of the MSM.

I've been actively pooh-poohing her in my evil alter-ego on DU, it's been quite fun lately. This article is another reason to do that.

Whatever encourages Gore to enter the race, is a good thing, the two of them will tear each other up something fierce.

Democratic leaders quietly fear that Sen. Hillary Clinton at the top of their 2008 ticket could hurt candidates at the bottom.

But - do those leaders have the back bone to stand up to her? And - do those leaders think she gives a rip about the bottom of the ticket? It's not about them or the party, it's about the Xlinton's regaining power and, to hell with the country and everybody else.

Instead of coat-tails, she'll be putting a ball and chain on the congressional candidates.

Works for me!

The first time I saw Hillary scowling at a GWB speech was the one he gave after 9/11. It was great speech and one could tell she was disgusted.
