Per Dick Morris, it was Conservative Bloggers, like us, who caused Fred Thompson to give Spencer Abraham the boot so quickly.

Hooray for our team. The guy went as fast as he came; and quietly too I might add.

Then, the luckless candidate turned to former Michigan Senator and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham. But just as bloggers — including us — began to unload on Abraham for his exceedingly pro-immigration record

This would seem to raise questions about his judgement.

Republicans prove time and again , they are weak. They are so concerned about comments in newspapers that no one under sixty reads and the the millions of illegals that can’t vote. Morons...

You’re a Paulite. I read your past postings. You’re opinion of FT has no weight here.

As one of the principal critics of the Abraham hire on FR, I must say I am very glad to hear this. However, I did endure some very nasty attacks for it, and that was most unfortunate. I love Fred, but the “official” supporters of him on this forum need to be very careful to learn the lessons of Dubya. Do not ever become a “FredBot”. Never cease questioning the decisions your guy makes. He NEEDS you to question him. Because in the blur of a campaign, bad decisions can be made and be moved on from in the blink of an eye, and often the man or the campaign can’t see it, or worse, hunkers down and defends it. Next time Fred goofs (and he will, they all do!) TELL HIM, don’t circle the wagons and make things worse.

That had so much common sense in it it's scary. If you were here I would buy you a beer. :o)

Abaraham is an excellent GOP campaign operative who rebuilt the Michigan GOP in the 80s. His views on the Middle East or his term as a Senator was irrelevant as his primary role was coordinating Fred’s campaign among state GOP powerbrokers.

What BS! This pure heresay. A media fabrication and Morris is a media whore. The only anouncement from the FredT unofficial campaign HQ, was to say that Spencer Abraham joined the campaign. That was it. There is no story here.

Care to provide a full quote to back that up? I have mentioned I like RP, however, I also have mentioned I like Hunter.

And instead of using childish names to describe who I might support, would you care to address what I posted above?

Curt dismissals of the field are easy. Name a Republican who isn't running that you could support then.

I also endured some nasty attacks, along with several others, by those that didn't quite grasp why some were concerned with his choice in this matter. It was either that, or they were willing to just overlook Spencer Abraham's background, only because it was "their" candidate who made the choice.

The American people, or many of them, are much more skeptical of politicians nowadays, are are watching them, their decisions, and examining their past records closely.

Fred doesn’t have much to recommend him yet, other than that some are so enamored of the “perfect candidate” that anybody who isn’t one yet looks better than anyone who is.

Meanwhile, Romney is actually running a race, he’s already gotten past his “growing pains”, he has a strong team in place, he’s proven he can turn out votes.

He’s not God, although I have a feeling God himself would have trouble winning over the people on FR. But he looks presidential, he’s smart as a whip, he speaks to the people in a way they can understand, he’s saying mostly the right things, and he’s never slept around, he’s got impecable character.

Meanwhile, Fred seems good enough, I could vote for him, but he’s old, he has trouble speaking for long periods, he’s not actually running, and he’s made several bad stumbles over things that shouldn’t have been an issue at all, like his consulting, his lobbying, and hiring people for his exploratory work.

And he really looks old. I’m not sure we can count on the average american voting for a guy who looks like he might not wake up the next day.

Fred Thompson is the ONLY candidate I have sent money to, but I just don’t see anything he has to offer right now to make me think I should support him over Romney. And a lot of people only consider it because they are bullied by the purists who love attacking every candidate that’s actually out there running for the office.

Dicky boy is interesting to listen to on Fox because he “seems” to be on our side now, BUT never forget he was very instrumental in bringing us 8 years of klintons. You can never be too sure who ain’t working undercover for more klinton!!

Luckless candidate? Is Dick Morris talking about Fred? If so, it’s Morris’s judgment I question, not Fred’s, for his hiring of Spencer Abraham, who was brought onto the team, from what I understand, for his organizational skills, NOT his views on foreign policy.
