Chinese metal is weird. Supposed to be steel but is more like lead. Much of it is both soft and brittle at the same time which is bizarre.

AvtoRevu, a leading Russian auto magazine, conducted a crash test of the Chery Amulet, the best-selling Chinese car in Russia, and said the car was one of the worst performers it has ever seen.

But it did get 40 mpg and only cost $10K.

Lead paint, asbestos seat cushions, rubber balloon airbag's,
with a fuel tank that doubles as a bumper.

"..AvtoRevu said it had to dismantle the test dummy to remove it from the car..."

Ouch! Reminds me of a story a lady told me about her new Yugo. She ran over a curb and totaled it.

a Chery Amulet sedan's front end folded like a concertina in a recent trial here.

You are all capitalist pig's.

It is obvious that you used too hard of a barrier in this so called 'test'.

There is nothing wrong with our cars.

Or our toys.

Or our food.

And we have corrected any problems, with anything.

Everything we make is safe.

For everyone.

Trust us!

Or we will nuke your economic structure.

We are a trusted, global, friend, yes?

The Party has spoken.

That is all.

If ALL cars were built like this Chinese thing, drivers would actually have to pay attention to driving.

The horror!

The front end of a car is supposed to crumple like a concertina -- it absorbs the energy of the collision. The passenger compartment is another story, however.

Also, the initial test was conducted without an air bag. Today's smaller, lighter cars depend on the air bag to provide reasonable safety.

For the money, I don't think it does that badly.

You know, instead of fighting Russia and working with China, perhaps we’re going about things backwards...

Perhaps the US and Russia should work together, and boycott Chinese exports.

Who knows, maybe Russia will sell us some cool stuff instead of sending it to places like Venezuela, and Iran.
