Iranian Invents Camera for Blind
Fars News Agency ^ | 06 Aug 2007 | staff

An Iranian inventor designed and produced the first photography and video camera for the blind.

Mahvash Sepehr told FNA that the camera works with color waves and their reactions and it can determine the distance automatically.

"Using this camera, blind people can recognize the distance and position of the subject, " she said, adding that she has also invented special tanks for the blind to develop their negatives.

"Once the film is developed, the tank starts ringing to warn the blind person that it is time to bring the negative out of the liquid," the Iranian inventor concluded.

As goofy as this news is, it seems revealing that Iran is so backwards that they still promote chemically developed negatives. We still have it too, but it's fading fast.

How would a blind photographer know what they were taking a picture of. But then, we have braille dots on drive-up ATMs.

Silly Islamic Republic puff piece. In reality, Islam is not about advancing human science and knowledge whatsoever.

The better to blow themselves up on target.

That’s because it’s cheaper to make all one kind, whether the braille is needed on every item or not.

Maybe the Islamists should stop throwing ACID in the eyes of their victims?

Developers with timers and alarms to tell you when they’re done have been around for a very long time, as have cameras that focus automatically, and thus know the distance to the target. They even beep when the target is in focus, even if you switch to manual focusing.

A blind person should not have much trouble using any fairly modern film SLR camera, and even several quite old ones, and developing their own pictures.

A blind person should easily be able to use any digital camera as well.

Strange article...not sure what’s supposed to be new.

My husband was blind, and we laughed at the drive up as well. But then, he was a person who never took any negative too seriously. I wish that I could have been more like him.

I’ll bet the blind photographer will have hours of fun looking over his snapshots.

This reminds me of a National Lampoon Magazine article from around 1973 which featured blind hunting. They illustrated a hunter using a rifle fitted with a sonic device. He shot a cow!

Sometimes National Lampoon wasn't all that sick, just funny.

Maybe they didn't think it out that far!

Cameras that will auto focus. Next thing you know, they will be inventing a device that turns on the light when the faithful “clap” for Allah.

I always figured the braille on the drive up ATM’s was for blind people who are riding in the back seat of a vehicle, such as a taxi.

Interesting. The Iranians attempt to brag that they have “invented” auto focus cameras, and timers for chemicals that develop film. Meanwhile, in the real world, scientists are inventing real cures for blindness.
