JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- A Baptist minister has been charged in Tennessee with indecent exposure and driving under the influence. Police said 58-year-old Tommy Tester of Bristol, Va., was wearing a skirt when he was arrested last week after allegedly relieving himself in front of children at a car wash.
A report also accuses Tester of offering police officers oral sex and says an open bottle of vodka and empty oxycodone prescription bottle was found in his car when Tester was arrested Friday.
Authorities identified Tester as the minister of Gospel Baptist Church in Bristol and an employee of Christian radio station WZAP-AM, also in Bristol. WZAP issued a statement asking for prayers and saying Tester has been suspended during an investigation.
Tester was released Friday on $1,000 bail. A hearing is scheduled for October.

Let's be crystal clear. You offered, "... being a leader and a shepherd and indulging in secret perversions ..." Friend, any, yes any, perversion indulged stops the flow of empowerment from The Holy Spirit. Such an one should be removed from shepherding or leading in any way. One of my current favorite Bible teachers was in the 'adult entertainment' business. She has been empowered by the Spirit to teach and is completely dedicated to His instructing her so she may instruct others ... so much so that she appears lopsided in personality, but her teaching is absolutely 'annointed'. Should she fall back into perversions, she should be removed from any teaching and leadership. And make no mistake, those whom God sets apart to serve Him in perfecting the saints is the one Satan wants to attack the strongest. But God is all about making old thing new by the renewing under His Holy Spirit, for it glorifies Jesus Christ when a lost one is born in the Spirit and set apart for His service.

“You do, of course, realize it is our previous experience of precisely this sort of sanctimonious nagging that makes this situation so entertaining”
Oh, I see, well that makes it alright. Good this came along for your entertainment.

Nah. Once Saved, Always Saved. Besides, its not like the Baptist Pope in the Holy City of Nashville can issue an excommunication or anything. I would hope the congregation would take action though.

After he was forced out in disgrace I considered being re-baptized, but then realized that the person doing the baptism isnt what matters. Agreed. An excellent insight.

There are sad schmucks like this in all walks of life, and this guy just happens to be Baptist. While I agree that most ministers are probably good folk, I would expect the number of creeps to be higher then typical. The ministry bestows a certain kind of trust that creepy people crave the abuse of. I've only known of two really creepy people in my life, and both of them were trying to get into the ministry (thank God they were unsuccessful...at least so far).

Poor bastard. You can’t help but feel sorry for him, even though his arrest occurred under such amusing circumstances. I hope he beats his psychological problems.

Do you think this might affect his career? He could always become a Democrat politician. He'd be a rising star in the party.

Look, I don't have a problem with cross dressing, mixing alcohol and drugs or public urination.
DUI is irresponsible.
However, when a minister from a sect notorious for intruding on other people's affairs does it, IT IS FUNNY.

MHGinTN: “People like Tester don’t rise to their positions among the body of believers without being confronted along the way by those who are supposed to have spiritual discernment which would prevent such high profile shame. Swaggert’s demise, Baker’s demise, Catholic Priests’ demise, these things should sound alarms along the entire chain of authority not just at the perps position.”
Oh, you mean just like King David from the Old Testament??
There is nothing new under the sun. Sin is an awful thing but the blame is on the sinner - not those whose trust he has offended. Even the greatest of men have fallen far (not to say this man is great).
The real test of Tester’s faith will be what follows.... (Perhaps his name is providential)
