I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but...
Posted on 07/31/2007 8:35:37 PM PDT by Jim Robinson
I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today. I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.
Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.
As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.

I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... ... I, on the other hand, have no such compunctions. Bill O'Reily is not only a liar; he is a damned liar.
Jim: if you have any legal options open to you, at this point... you need to take them, ASAP. If this bogus meme is allowed to stand, unopposed, it will metastasize into concretized "truth" into the minds of virtually everyone not already familiar with FR via first hand experience. They'll have heard O'Reilly TELL them so, on nationwide television; therefore, "it must be true."
Seriously. You (and we) absolutely WILL end up regreting allowing this to pass, otherwise.

Oh, Bill... I guess I wont be tuning in to his show much anymore. His ratings will plumment and then he'll say he was "Swiftboated" by FR.
Actually, if I were conspiracy-minded I would suggest that Hillary hired BOR to "Swiftboat" Freerepublic. I'm not, so I'll just assume that he was duped by some staff member who failed to do their homework when researching this story for him.

Bill O’Reilly owes America more then what he delivered tonight. He did not get it right tonight. We all know this is not a hate site. Because he got this wrong, I am force to ask what else has he gotten wrong? What else will he get wrong?
I can not longer trust O’reilly’s commentary.
He owes the American people more then hack reporting and commentary.

You’re right. I’m on the right coast, and it is late. But, poopy pants head used in a discussion about O’Reilly just hit the laugh button for me.

Here's a Bill O'Rielly story you may not have heard, but that made it onto the radio airwaves.
In the mid 90s O'Reilly used to appear on Boston's Howie Carr radio show to promote his books. Both he and Howie had worked at Boston's channel 7 TV in the 70s, and the segments were interesting, with behind the scenes Boston media stories. When the O'Rielly Factor TV show began, O'Reilly would reoeatedly bloviate about how he was doing this, that and the other thing on the "Factor" (instead of "my show", and after he left, Howie's producers (Sandy, VB and Butchie) would comment how O'Reilly was so full of himself and they might have to enlarge the studio doors so that O'Reilly could get his head inside on his next visit.
After O'Reilly got his radio show, another Boston station picked it up, and he no longer made appearances on Howie's show (that is on a competing Boston station).
When O'Rielly made the news, you could tell by Howie's producers comments, that there was no love lost between them.
At some point a caller asked what was the problem that Howie's staff had with O'Reilly. Howie told a story of how O'Reilly took a dislike to one of his producers (Butchie Brennan, now a producer for the "Radio Chick" show out of New York City and on Satellite Radio). Apparently on O'Reilly's last in studio appearance, he got into some sort of argument with Butchie and hauled back and spit on him (this was NOT a sybillant "S" deal, this was hock a lungie on someone). So you have a "supposedly" mature 50 something long time well known member of the media, settling a disagreement by spitting on someone. But if the stories about his calling that woman in the sex harrassment case and informing her of his pocket rocket vibrator are true, he is more like his fellow Long Island media "stars" like Howard Stern, Rosie O'Donnell, and Alex Baldwin: immature loudmouths who shoot from the hip and are convinced that they are rarely, if ever, wrong about anything.

You did great! O’Reilly, like so many talk show hosts, has a tendency to talk over his guests. I think they would all learn more if they listened to something besides their own voices.
The video of your interview is available now on The O’Reilly Factor webpage.

So is Bill looking to join Dan Rather in the Disgraced Anchorfossil Hall of Fame?
I look forward to his Fox-counsel-required, hat-in-hand retraction and apology.

The ONLY times I've ever seen (brand-new) freepers denigrate blacks are in the NOLA <--> Houston threads re Katrina. And those comments get deleted right away.

Were you (kristinn) on the show representing FR at the time he made these statements? Wouldn’t that mean he defamed you, personally?
To: jveritas; Jim Robinson
I called BOR a bonehead for his stance on the koran flushing. Might that be one of the things he referred to as 'hateful' on the BOR thread last night? Maybe I should have said 'knucklehead'.
Personally, I think he has one or more moles working in his production/research area because for being level-headed on many things, he sure can stick it to honest people on the right. I lost major respect over his Swift Boat episodes and a failure to provide the "hate speech" URLs to you Jim will show colors that I hope aren't there.

BOR doesn’t care about the truth. He just wants to be liked. That’s what ratings are all about.

I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," ............ I do not believe that. Somebody has posted the phrase "I Hate Blacks" on Free Republic.
It was part of the HEADLINE of an ARTICLE published in "San Francisco Gate.com" (SFGate.com) entitled:
Asian paper's "I Hate Blacks" column assailed
Freepers then went on to blast the author of said newspaper column as "an idiot racist".
If you do a search on Free Republic for the phrase "I Hate Blacks", you get one hit which is that thread. Bill O'Reilly was probably told by his research staff to search for "I Hate Blacks", he did and he indeed "read 'I Hate Blacks' on Free Republic today".
It's the old Fake but Accurate Trick.
It seems that Bill O'Reilly had his "Dan Rather Moment" tonight with "All the News that is Fit to Fake".

OReillys primary no spin interest is OReilly. He needed some sort of right-leaning foil to play against Kos and used FR for that purpose, to look balanced for the folks.
Somewhere there is a nail with a very sore head right now.
