A TV news producer may have been killed by a hit-and-run driver outside his Greenwich Village apartment Monday morning, police said.
Eric Wishnie, 44, was crossing at Sixth Avenue and 10th Street when he was allegedly struck at 3:05 a.m., according to authorities.
Wishnie was a producer for NBC News. He died at St. Vincent's Hospital, police said.
Wishnie was on leave from the network. He is the husband of NBC reporter Dawn Fratangelo.
NBC News President Steve Capus issued the following statement:
Eric Wishnie was an enormously talented former senior producer at NBC News, who had a hand in some of the most monumental and memorable news stories of our time. The entire NBC News family is devastated by this loss, and extends our deepest sympathies to his family.
That crossed my mind too. Did he do any work which was viewed as unfavorable to Hillary?
Well, they might be right! LOL!
July 30, 2007 — An award-winning NBC news producer who was married to correspondent Dawn Fratangelo was killed near his Manhattan home early this morning by a hit-and-run driver, police sources said.
Eric Wishnie, 45, a senior segment producer on “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was found at the corner of 6th Avenue and 10th Street at 2:51 a.m.
He was taken to St. Vincents Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:02 a.m.
Police sources his neck had been broken.
There were no witnesses but police were checking surveillance security cameras in the area, which may have caught the deadly incident on tape.
Since it was 3:05am...I would think a traffic camera would catch the car, no?
NY is wired:
3:05AM? Maybe that’s part of the problem.
So does that mean he may not have been killed by a hit-and-run driver? Veeeeeeery interesting.
He was on leave.
Still doesn’t mean as much as it might with those of us in the regular 9 - 5 daily grind, but I see your point.
After a stint under professional psychiatric evaluation, he was set free to kill a staff a NBC, or maybe the local WNBC.
They probably let him out so he can vote.
We’ll hear more about it. I can’t imagine getting hit by a car at that time in the morning....even in NYC the traffic is light.
Google Street View has cameras wired at 6th and 10th!
Further proof that nothing good ever happens after 2:00 AM.
I would think, maybe, they do have video. 3:05 am is fairly precise...
Unless Ol’Barney Fife made the standard “broken watch” deduction.
Yea, I’d prefer 8:00 AM.....gettin’ hit by a bus is always better after breakfast. It sucks getting run over on an empty stomach!
The bad news is that a man is dead and his wife is a widow.
For that matter, was he out for any reason at all?
>>>>Unless OlBarney Fife made the standard broken watch deduction.
I’m looking at the live cam of 6th and 10th. It is a clear view. These things are suppose to be recorded, no?
After he was found (wonder who was looking for him?) at 2:51 he was then allegedly a victim of hit and run at 3:05 ... interesting ... very interesting!
Can you access the google street maps?

I can pan this camera all the way up to the store fronts.
Eric Wishnie demise should be on these cameras.
