Schumer: 'No more confirmations of Bush high court nominees'

New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a powerful member of the Democratic leadership, said Friday the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush “except in extraordinary circumstances.”

“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.”

Schumer said there were four lessons to be learned from Alito and Roberts: Confirmation hearings are meaningless, a nominee’s record should be weighed more heavily than rhetoric, “ideology matters” and “take the president at his word.”

By punishing the GOP you sure did not hurt Pelosi and Reid did you? I cast votes against their party, you whined and sat on the sidelines, thus not casting against them. You are a tool for them. Right, Al? You complain more about the GOP on this thread than about the democrats, What does that say, AL? You are their pet. That is a good boy.

Agreed! Nietzschean misspelled but nonetheless an 800 score.

You’re wrong.

When the next Democrat President nominates a liberal to the Court, the RINOs will roll over and support him. Unlike the Dems, RINOs don’t know how to filibuster. The Specters and Hagels and Warners and their ilk will all support a liberal.

Try to sell your pablum to someone else. I didn’t fall for Baghdad Bob’s propaganda, either.

I am not so sure about that because you are so quick to blame the GOP for all your ills, and blame them when the democrats do something wrong, yet you fail to direct any ammuntion at the democrats themselves. You are their tool Al.

If you'd stop drooling over the RINO's, maybe you'd have seen that my first post was attacking Schumer. But seeing as how you've been carrying the water pail on almost every post for all the RINO's, and, in the same breath, ATTACKING CONSERVATIVES who put principle over party, you've been taken to task for your odious comments.

I am thinking that the President can put on the bench whomever he wants. The "advise and consent" is just a courtesy to the Senate. I don't think Chucky wants to go there, or maybe he does. Not a smart thing to say on his part at all. He has an ego problem.

Now there is something to the consent part, but I would have to know more about the process. Just because a Senator does not give their "consent" sure as heck doesn't mean the same as not giving their "vote". Words have meaning. I believe the President has final say.

I realize you can't read because I posted earlier, that in the primaries I vote for the most conservative republican candidate. In the general election I vote republican to keep the democrats from power, like Pelosi and Reid. You do not. You are their tool, Al.

My republican senator is Gordon Smith. Used to be a good conservative but is terrible in the WOT. If I have a choice to vote a staunch consrvative over him for the republican nomination, I will. If not, I will vote for him against the democrat. That is the difference between you and I. I will do everything to keep the democrats out of power. If you do not get your way, you will assist them Al. You are their useful tool.

“There is no doubt that we were hoodwinked,” said Schumer, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee and heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Translation: Bush is smarter than us...

How does anyone know for a fact that he did score 1600? I don’t doubt that he has some basic intelligence that got him through Harvard Law, but anyone can say (or start a rumor) that they scored 1600 and it’s impossible to refute. The scores are confidential between the student, College Board, and the colleges to which the scores are sent.

I do very much doubt that he ever scored near 800 on the math section - he seems too dim-witted to have such math skills....

We are dealing with Socialists and the sooner we get that through our thick skulls, the better we can fight them.

I think you are understating the problem...and being a little unfair to Socialists.

No, I fear we are dealing with actual Stalinists. Their objectives are not merely ecomomic like well-behaved Socialists. They want the whole totalitarian enchilada -- thought control (hate crimes legislation), supression of free speech (silence talk radio), control of people's diets, what cars they drive, who they can rent their property to. They consider the public schools an instrument of state propaganda. And, of course, they are on a jihad to suppress Christianity and Judaism. And, like the Soviets of yesteryear, they want to bring all the world's sheeple together under their all-powerful, all-intrusive government. No, this is way more than Socialism; this is Stalinism.

You are right. The flamethrowers of the 60s and 70s infiltrated the institutions where power lies: academia, government, bureaucracies, foundations, unions, - and are entrenched...seeking to do as much damage as possible in the present while grooming the next generation to replicate themselves before they retire/die out.

Conservatives whether in the Republican Party or true independents or Reagan dems need to strategize around issues that can help them regain majorities in the state.

At present both parties are corrupt and one is in its ascendancy (Dem Stalinists). But stuff happens and can happen rather quickly. A “white/black knight” scenario a la TR in the 19th century, a total breakdown in the dem machine, sweeping conservative victories in the US, a major corruption scandal, lots of things can happen. But for these things to happen a re-energized Republican Party must emerge and be prepared to pick up the ball...we do not have anything remotely like this at present.

Neither, I am guessing. Schumer is a big defender of wall street, so I guess I can see why the GOP there backs him.

Nobody knows for sure. But I would not call this guy dim witted.

Look at the rest of the Dim caucus if you want to see dimwitted. Schumer pulls the strings on Leahy for the Judiciary, and he directs all the new empty suit Democrats in the Senate.
