Schumer: 'No more confirmations of Bush high court nominees'
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0707/5146.html ^

New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a powerful member of the Democratic leadership, said Friday the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush “except in extraordinary circumstances.”

“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.”

Schumer said there were four lessons to be learned from Alito and Roberts: Confirmation hearings are meaningless, a nominee’s record should be weighed more heavily than rhetoric, “ideology matters” and “take the president at his word.”

Could he know something that the rest of us don’t? Could there be a retirement in the very near future?

None of the liberal 4 would retire during a GOP Presidency under any situation. They would remain on life support until after the next election if they had to. Of course all four of them have 15 years on the conservative justices. It's only a matter of time, if we can keep the WH another 4 years.

They should change their name to the Communist Party of The United States, because that’s what these scumbags have become.

But, that would be honest!

Nice that they’ve finally tossed aside all pretense and have openly admitted that they are going to refuse to perform their sworn duties for the good of their political party.

At least now we can stop debating over vagueness.

What exactly does he not understand about "advise and consent"? None of these people, none of them, ever seem to follow their Constitutional duties, or think about what is best for this country.....ever.

This is absurd. The Senate has the responsibility to give “advice and consent” on judicial nominees. The advice and consent as represented by the confirmation hearings may leave something to be desired, but, that’s part of the Senate’s job. For him to pre-emptively say that no future Bush nominees should be confirmed is ridiculous. Maybe that plays well on the Upper West Side but he should be careful for what he wishes for. If he’s going to say that ideology and litmus tests such as Roe Vs. Wade are the sole criterion for confirmation, what would he say if a future Republican Senate refuses to confirm a nominee by President Hillary solely due to ideology??

He's an idiot. He admitted he was duped by a man liberals consider to be sub-part in the intelligence department: George W. Bush! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Poor Chuckie! And now to salvage his embarrassment he doesn't want Bush to trick him again. And here I was thinking how smart the Democrats are. Oh, my! ;-)

Do checks and balances mean nothing to this man?

yeah, don’t know...............

however if the shoe were on the other foot................

a democrat in the wh, and a republican house & senate........

if the gop leaders didn’t make the same claim, nearly everyone on this site would have their panties in a bunch and would be screaming bloody murder....................

Schumer wasn’t duped, technically. He voted against both of them.

It might not be saying much, but Schumer is probably one of the most intelligent Dimocrat in the Senate. Unfortunately, good minds can go to bad cuases.

Dangerously out of balance? What balance is that? Why, that implies that some members of the SCOTUS are...shhh... political.

The court should be about the Constitution and THE LAW, not balance.

What I find funny is liberals can't tell who is a conservative just by looking at them. What if a conservative has no paper trail? No wonder Schumer is upset. I can't really blame him for feeling duped by two of the most brilliant Supreme Court Justices of our generation.

I heard here on FR before the 2006 elections, how it would be good if the democrats took over the majority to teach the republicans a lesson. Yeah, good idea. Others like myself knew it would be a disaster. Punishing the GOP gave us these dangerous, traitorous bottom feeders. Thanks to anyone that felt we need to punish the GOP. Thank you. The long term effects by the democrats being in power will be felt for decades.

Chuckie's really coming into his own these days as an evil demagogue----->>>>

To wit, Schumer's Chinese lunch covers the following pu-pu platter of motifs:

· "Sweet 'N Low is made in Brooklyn," he says, eyeing the packets of sugar substitute on the table a few minutes after he is seated. "I'll tell you a good story about that." And he does.

· He doesn't care for the spring rolls at Hunan Dynasty but he loves the Szechwan shrimp, which the restaurant often comps him. "One thing I've learned," Schumer says, "is that when a restaurateur offers you something, provided it's modest, you don't turn it down. You insult him." Particularly at ethnic restaurants. "I have a story about this," Schumer says, which he tells. (It involves a carafe of wine at an Italian place in Brooklyn.)

· He scored "four 800s" on his SAT, he says, including two achievement tests.

· Schumer, whose suits are often wrinkled and ties are often askew, was dubbed one of the nation's "frumpiest" senators by Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid.

When will the GOP wake up?

?Time to dust off the nuclear option - they have no d*amn right to stop nominations from coming to the floor.

His mind set is a stark example of how far into Socialism the democratic party has slid.

The most frightening thing is not that he said it - but that he actually believes it...That's the total Socialist/totalitariat mind...

Schumer is a really smart guy. Indisputable.

The fact that he is a Democrat, and a prominent one indicates to me that the man is intrinsically evil.

This politician is intending to move up in the Game, and he’ll stop at nothing.

He clearly has a long term agenda!

Everyone here who snottily says they’re going to refuse to vote for anyone but THIER candidate should pay attention to this. Elections have consequences and whoever the Republican candidate is - even if we don’t love him - is better than the Democrat, no matter who the Democrat is.

Bears repeating -

Indeed, there are many pubbies - including some Freepers, who need to write that on the blackboard 100 times
