Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton ran away from the "liberal tag during Monday nights Democratic debate, claiming instead that she is a "progressive.
Early on in the CNN/YouTube-sponsored debate, a California resident posed these questions on his video: "Mrs. Clinton, how would you define the word liberal? And would you use this word to describe yourself?
Hillary answered: "You know, it is a word that originally meant that you were for freedom, that you were for the freedom to achieve, that you were willing to stand against big power and on behalf of the individual.
"Unfortunately, in the last 30, 40 years, it has been turned up on its head and it's been made to seem as though it is a word that describes big government, totally contrary to what its meaning was in the 19th and early 20th century.
"I prefer the word progressive, which has a real American meaning, going back to the progressive era at the beginning of the 20th century.
"I consider myself a modern progressive, someone who believes strongly in individual rights and freedoms, who believes that we are better as a society when we're working together and when we find ways to help those who may not have all the advantages in life get the tools they need to lead a more productive life for themselves and their family.
"So I consider myself a proud modern American progressive, and I think that's the kind of philosophy and practice that we need to bring back to American politics.
CNN host Anderson Cooper said: "So you wouldn't use the word liberal, you'd say progressive. He then asked former Sen. Mike Gravel: "Are you a liberal?
Gravel replied: "I wouldn't use either word and changed the subject.
The liberal group Americans for Democratic Action gave Hillary a 95 percent "liberal quotient last year, among the highest ratings in the Senate.
She’s really not anything — just for HRC, whatever works.
You are right. Progressive is another “code” word for communist. During the early 1950’s (the “red” scare in Hollywood), there was a “progressive” party flourishing in those days.
Yeah... and my bowel movements smell like Chanel No 5...
‘scuse me, I might audibly fart from laughing so hard.
OK, She's for socialized medicine. She's anti-gun. She's for increased taxes, bigger government, and more government spending. She's pro abortion, SHe's for Mexican amnesty. So where are her non liberal positions?
She’s not a liberal. She’s a socialist.
Bingo!
As Rush says...you’re Hugo Chavez in a pantsuit.
(I stole that.)
Absolutly true and historically verifiable.
David Horowitz has an autobiography that is outstanding that explains this very well.
Horowitz, when younger, was the editor of Ramparts and a leader in the new-left. He left when he eventually saw the corruption that led to murder and the excusing of it. He re-thought his entire world view and is now a stauch conservative.
In that book he tells of growing up in the communist movement with his parents who were closet communists in the NY Teachers Union.
When the truth of Stalin's evil was finally faced by the communists themselves, they told David that the new party line was to speak of themselves always as Progressives, instead of liberals since "liberal" was seen as to open to allignment with communism.
They stole the term from earlier, unrealized agraian movements of the midwest.
So, when we read that term we must understand that communists in the US decided in the sixties to begin to use it to hide their true alignment and understand it in that sense.
Doesn’t matter what she wants to call it. She is a socialist liberal.
And remember when she uses the term "progressive" it means "ever increasing" like cancer being a progressive disease.
Okay, Hill...you’re not a liberal.
You’re a lying, theiving, criminal, murdering, philandering, Marxist-loving, America-hating bat-faced witch...but you’re not a liberal.
