Spike Movie's Iraq War Vet Ex-Marine Earns Applause for Denouncing the War

By Brent Baker | July 23, 2007 - 01:20 ET

The first part of Spike TV's mini-series, The Kill Point, on Sunday night featured a scene in which an Iraq war veteran bank robber holding hostages earned applause from a crowd outside the bank when he denounced the war. Walking outside the bank to meet the police negotiator, “Mr. Wolf” played by John Leguizamo (IMDb bio), a former Marine Corps Sergeant who served a year in Leavenworth for disobeying an order that apparently led to the deaths of other Marines, removed his shirt and pants to show scars from his war wounds. He proclaimed: “I didn't spill my blood for this country for freedom to have it taken away when I came home. I got some demands because they took everything away from me,” citing the loss of medical coverage for his wife after his conviction. “Wolf” shouted his demands: “I want a flak jacket for every soldier in Iraq! Because our stupid-ass government doesn't think that they're necessary. And I want the son of every Senator who voted yes for this war to sign up for active duty.” That led to applause from the civilians in the street watching the unfolding drama, with a few even jumping up and down in approval.

As detailed in July 18 and July 20 NewsBusters postings, the eight-hour mini-series is centered around a group of Iraq war vets who rob a Pittsburgh bank, but end up taking hostages when police arrive before they can flee. The CBS/Viacom channel mini-series about the siege began Sunday night with a two-hour premiere and will air weekly in one and two-hour installments on Sunday nights through August.

The rant from the bitter ex-Marine as he stood outside the bank addressing the negotiator, police snipers and the crowd, an event carried live on local television:

I love my country, man. I fought for my country and I would die for my country. Do you think I wanted to end up here? Do you think I wanted guns in my face again, man? No way. No freakin' way. But I came home to sickness and nightmares. You know when I close my eyes you know what I see? I see the faces of the soldiers and civilians that I killed, that's what I see. I spoke to my captain and he makes me talk to a shrink who doesn't know shit. Then the God damned government smokes me out with their lies and away goes my pension, away goes my medical. And if my wife gets sick, who's going to pay for it? Who's going to pay? I pay. We pay. I served my country, man. I served 15 years I gave, 15 years. Who's going to protect me? Who's going to protect me, huh, who?

So I started this and look where I am, man, look where I am, back in the firing line. So maybe you should shoot me, go ahead, maybe you should shoot me. I'd rather die than go to jail, that's for damn sure. I didn't spill my blood for this country for freedom to have it taken away when I came home. I got some demands because they took everything away from me, okay.

I want antibiotics 'cause I got injured in there. And I want a flak jacket for every soldier in Iraq! Because our stupid-ass government doesn't think that they're necessary. And I want the son of every Senator who voted yes for this war to sign up for active duty. You get me those things! And I'll leave here. I'll ask for bus and a chopper and I'll disappear. Got that?

I believe this falls into Ann Coulter’s group of “people you can’t criticize.”

This is a war the Dems and their media whores simply can’t afford to allow America to win. It’s that simple. They will do everything they can to force an early withdrawal. In fact, they are doing exactly that.

There’s going to be a lot of blood on Democratic hands, but the Dem whores in the media won’t cover it.

It’ll be a nonevent like Cambodia circa 1977.

Did I spend a year in Ramadi, or Da Nang?

The way my country is talking about me, I don’t know anymore. It’s the 1970’s all over again.

It goes without saying that no one who had ever been within a thousand miles of our troops in Iraq could have written this nonsense.

“I want a flak jacket for every soldier in Iraq!

I stopped reading after this remark. Unfortunately though, there are too many ignorant people out there that will believe this nonsense.

>> I served 15 years I gave, 15 years. Who’s going to protect me? Who’s going to protect me, huh, who?<<

This is psychological warfare being waged on our soldiers and Marines. The troops or their loved ones are supposed to be fearful and demoralized when they hear this Commie BS.
I am not. My son is not. We just realize that the strongest ally that the terrorists have is the MSM/Hollywood.

The Unit TV show is particularly offensive in this regard.
Macho fighting men get no thanks for risking their lives, their home lives are a mess, they are married to whackos and whores, and and and...that is life for the military’s elite fighting force. What must it be like for the regular guys? O Horrors!

If I ever met David or Lynn Mamet, I’d scream blue murder at them. Despicable insulated Lefties.

I was watching the show and it was quite good, but when I heard them refer to the ring leader as “ Sarge”, it sent a signal to me that something was going to piss me off.
After the Rant, I turned it off after being proved right. Hollywood cant make a program anymore without having a message ingrained in it. The commies do the same thing. Every play, movie or TV show has to have a message. Cant we be entertained without being bombarded like this.

Spike. Another network from SeeBS-Viacommie-eMpTyV.

Tell your cable company you want to defund such leftist drivel. Tell them to stop forcing you to subsidize these channels and charge you only for the channels you OPT IN for.

“I want a flak jacket for every soldier in Iraq!"

Yeah, that jumped out at me. What an ignorant comment, written by someone who clearly doesn't know what a flak jacket is.

As it was long ago pointed out, Hollywood is great for producing morality plays, based on the assumption that whoever makes a morality play has higher morals than the audience, precisely *because* NOBODY in Hollywood has higher morals than ANYONE in the audience.

It comes under the heading of “Those who can’t do, teach, and whine incessantly about how they know more about it than those who do, *because* they teach.”

Cant we be entertained without being bombarded like this.

Short answer, NO.

I'm reading a book (textbook I guess but I found it at a used bookstore) on presentation of images.

There is a chapter that appears to have been borrowed (with attribution) from Adbusters magazine. I never read the magazine but am somewhat familiar with their gripes.

Typical liberal anti-capitalist, anti-consumerism claptrap.

Any valid points are generally to be lost in a swirl of partisan BS. The cited article was no exception.

The author made the point that advertising has had to use "shock" to sell their messages now (heroin chic, increasing porno traits in Calvin Klein ads, FCUK clothing...). However the lib plays his hand. He says that many Americans are so fearful of being labeled an NEA-opposing Republican that they will pretend that such outrages aren't really offensive or noticeable.

They suppress their outrage (as they did during Clinton's slimey terms, although the author won't mention it).

But it gets worse. The author went on at length about subliminal negative reinforcement experiments (by the same man behind MK-ULTRA). I suspect that the constant presentation of chaos in the media (serial killers as celebrity, attrocities on parade, et al) is there to dullen sensitivity and unlock the mind for "positive impression" when it comes time to "relax" watching "entertainment" on the same networks that have pummeled them with "bad news".

The political messages come in the entertainment shows. Your defenses are already down (maybe you even fall asleep at the tube with subliminal education going on listening as you sleep).

It may sound far fetched (and be a result more by effect, than design) but don't take it to be too paranoid. I certainly feel that late night infomercials are geared to be heard by those sleeping with the tv on. The messages are not being said to a conscious individual above the age of 5. Watch one sometime, they are all of the sort: "You can work from home. You choose which stocks you want to watch, the program finds the price points which will maximize your return and you can be your own boss! I love it! I can work from home! The program is so easy to use, I choose the stocks and it actually finds the price points that maximize my returns! I can finally be MY OWN BOSS! That's right, you can work from home..."

A modern morality play, restage The Crucible to tackle to problem of Nifongism.

Another modern rewrite, The Jungle 2 to tackle to problems of disgusting contamination of our food supply thanks to an international production with none of the oversights we’ve been used to for many decades.

This time, it won't be a distant event involving others. We are the principal target of AQ. It is not a matter of if but when we get hit again. If history is any predictor, the next hit will be much more spectacular and deadly than 9/11.

I predict a massive audience for this crap consisting of Cindy Sheehan and Leguizamo's mami.
