NEWSWEEK: Ayman Al-Zawahiri, the Qaeda No. 2, Has Provoked a Potentially Serious Ideological Split Within Al Qaeda, Jihadists Tell Newsweek
NEW YORK, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pakistani and Taliban officials interviewed by Newsweek say the Qaeda No. 2, Ayman Al-Zawahiri is behind the wave of retaliatory attacks launched after Pakistani troops overran the Red Mosque in Islamabad, which have killed more than 150 people. While Osama bin Laden has been keeping a low profile, Zawahiri has moved aggressively to take operational control of the group. In so doing, Zawahiri has provoked a potentially serious ideological split within Al Qaeda over whether he is growing too powerful and has become obsessed with toppling Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, according to two jihadists interviewed by Newsweek last week.
The anti-Zawahiri faction in Al Qaeda fears his actions may jeopardize the safe haven that the group has developed in Pakistan's tribal regions of North Waziristan and Bajaur, according to the jihadists, Omar Farooqi, the nom de guerre for a veteran Taliban fighter and chief liaison officer between insurgent forces in Afghanistan's Ghazni province, and Hemat Khan, a Taliban operative with links to Al Qaeda. Both have proved reliable in the past.

Do that first, at the outset.
If they succeed taking Pakistan, India may do the nasty for us and we can keep our hands clean.
Well, that would appear to be the main idea. And none of this letting the bearded extremists pull that "tactical" trucial crap, phony peacemaking, etc., etc. Make them fight, make them fight hard, and make them fight to the last man and boy. And hang the madrassa teachers, Al Q'aedists, and Taliban out of hand -- they started all this.
Then find Bin Laden, and bring him to the well of the Senate in a cage, to see what should be done with him. Personally, I prefer a helicopter ride to New York, ending at the 106th floor of the World Trade Center.
They've been that way for awhile now....the populous believes that the Islamic state gives them legal rights to drive all non-muslimes out...which they have just about done.
Jim Quinn sees his punishment as thus, build a prison cell out of wood, nice, no ramshackle affair, lift it about 100 stories up on one of those high rise cranes, then light it on fire. Give him the same choice the victims in the WTC had.
The Surge is Working and terrorists are Tired of Dying
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
There is a photo somewhere on one of the WTC threads, that some photog took in the first minutes after the first hit, of the gaping hole in the north wall of WTC1. The guy didn't know what he had when he took the shot -- later, when he developed it and blew it up, he sucked air at what he saw. There, on the 91st floor, standing in the gap where the 767's left engine pod had carved its outline in the box-beams of the outer skin, was a young woman with long, blonde hair. She was about 5' 10" and 140-150 pounds, wearing (apparently) jeans or slacks and a black sweater. She was standing at the very edge of the hole, both hands on one of the bent-over box beams that jutted up into the little space that had been left between the engine pod and the fuselage. She had her left arm around the beam and her right hand resting on it about even with her left shoulder. Her hair was honey-blonde and waist-length, and it hung forward over her right shoulder to her waist. She was looking down. Behind her, a floor above her in the darkness of the interior, you could see through the gouge the wing had made in the concrete of the 92nd floor a fluorescent tube, still lit. To her right (at left of the hole), you could see carpeting on fire in the offices nearest her on either side of the hole. Nobody ever came down from 91 -- the way down was cut off by wreckage. If she could have grabbed a length of Romag and made a stout sling, she could have wall-walked down and kicked her way back in on 90, 10 feet below, where lots of people got out through one stairwell. I wonder who she was.
I want that bastard to look down and see what she saw.
Sic manifesto.
I'm afraid you're right. Just as well Fred Rogers is dead. He wouldn't like the next few years.
