The FDA is compiling a full list right now for release by the end of the day.
The Castlebarrys Chili Suace for hot dogs showed out of 17 cans tested, 16 had botulism.
I have a link of the companies list as of 7-18-07.

I’d not heard of that. I’ll have to do some snooping around...
Bush’s [no relation to the CIC] is a great product.
I love their beans once in awhile with hotdogs. :)
I just pray it’s all American produced ingredients.
“How is it different than Hormel?”
I’m no gourmand...but I think I can give a passionate amateur opinion
on comfort foods.
Before I ramble on too much, here’s the URL for Wolf Brand and a copy
of the famous Wolf Brand advertizing slogan:
http://www.wolfbrandchili.com/
Neighbor, How long has it been since you had a big, thick, steaming bowl
of Wolf Brand Chili?
Well, thats too long!
(VOA’s commentary continues)
As for Hormel...it’s good, dependable (consistent) and doesn’t give
you the feeling that it might clog arteries with one bowl.
On the other hand, Wolf Brand Chili is more of what the afficianados of
chili would call a Texas-style chili: cubed cuts of sirloin for the
meat and (importantly) NO BEANS.
(But Wolf Brand does offer a “with beans” version for the non-purist).
When Wolf Brand was a small (probably “independent”) company product
for years, you did get the impression your arteries were in for a
pluggin’ because when you opened the can and inverted it over the pan...
a fairly solid slug of congealed fat/lard/chunked beef would solidly
plop down into the pan.
BUT...once warmed and consumed with saltines (or dipped with dry/near-burned toast)...
it was true comfort food. Especially on those nights in Oklahoma and
Northern Texas when winter temps might drop to -20F to -40F windchill factor.
Now it appears that Cargill owns Wolf Brand. I think I have noticed an
improvement in the cuts of meat and maybe a lessening of the solid fat
content over the past year or so. BUT fortunately, no diminuation in
taste or “comfort food” quality.
I think Mr. Hormel (or Ms. Hormel depending on how he was feeling that day) was also disgraced ex-President Clinton's pick for Ambassador to The Vatican.
I don't remember if the nomination was confirmed or not but I do remember there was some uproar about that.
I’ll second what ErnB has to say. I make a quick burrito with cheese and the Chili —— nuke it for a minute + or so.
(Cover the burrito with a paper towel while nuking to keep the splatter down.)
The glass jar makes for a real fine way to keep the chili from day to day until gone.
Looks mighty tasty! Thanks for the link.
I’m a no bean type gal myself and cubes of beef sound better than Hormel’s mushy stuff.
Might have to order some online.....
Oh, you people are making me so hungry I have to get off this darned computer and go feed myself. That burrito idea sounds delicious. :)
My husband and son are off camping so I have to fend for myself only this weekend. Guess I should feed the dogs too. LOL
Real chili does not have beans.
There are only three basic ingredients to chili, being beef, tomatoes and onion. Everything else is just seasoning.
Home made is best of course, but the Bush’s chili is very good, especially served ‘Cincinnati style’ (over spaghetti with shredded cheese and chopped onions)...MMMMMM!
According to my next door neighbor, an old Yankee, the local dairy used to take the white milk with the expired expiration date and turn it into chocolate milk (or ice cream).
Americans can cut corners too... :-)
My stew is the best, lol.
"Butt(heh) it will clean your colon..."
I never had heard of Cattle Drive Chilli until I read about it here last week.
Who knew it would show up in the lil camping/boat launch store on the rural Oregon Coast?
Kroger is also known as Fred Meyer and they are on the list.
The owner of the lil store pulled the Chili as I called and told him about for sure recal of the product he had on the shelves witha big thanks for the heads up.
By your screen name I’ll make an assumption on where you live.
Sig Other has a sister, etc, living in a town about 150 mi
south of mpls on the west shore of the Miss. Nice people, BUT, their idea of a really good meal is a hot dish of
tuna/marshmallows at the church picnic. They visited us,
Sig Other put together a really nice little lunch which included chili (home made) buritos. We thought they’d die, no way could they handle it. We still LOL at the thought!!
I use the burrito thing the same way you do ——
emergency rations! (with a Coors Light)
It’s a major platform for her and that was true when Team Clinton was in the White House (Tyson moving into all of the meat operations the FDA closed down.
When I read food safety articles I always remember Hillary and her many speeches on the topic.
been a lot of food safety related news recently.
