Reid: Pull Troops or We Won’t Pay Them
TownHall.com ^ | 20 July 2007 | Amanda Carpenter

If Majority Leader Harry Reid can’t start pulling troops out of Iraq, he doesn’t want to start paying them any more either.

After an amendment to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq within 120 days failed to receive the 60 votes needed to proceed, Reid set the entire defense authorization bill aside. By doing so, he shelved a 3.5 percent pay raise for all uniformed service personnel, $4 billion in equipment upgrades and a new program to treat traumatic brain injuries.

To increase pressure on Republicans to support the measure, sponsored by Sen. Carl Levin (D.-Mich.) and Sen. Jack Reed (D.-R.I.), Reid threw the Senate into an all night session on Tuesday evening that lasted through Wednesday morning. Levin-Reid fell eight votes short, 52-47.

“There are two things that I want to accomplish,” Reid told reporters immediately after the amendment vote. “One is to pass a defense authorization bill, but with a deadline dealing with Iraq. Once we put that together, we'll move forward on it.”

What I would like to know is how long will Joe Lieberman let this go on?
He can't single-handedly stop it. What's he been doing on this issue lately?

Friday, July 20, 2007 - The night Mitch McConnell became the leader of the Republican Party.

Any conservative who watched the debate in the evening recognizes the frustration in him. It’s the same frustration conservatives had between 2005 and the beginning of this year when Bill Frist, the affable but ineffective Republican majority leader, consistently mismanaged the Senate. Ted Kennedy is angry at Harry Reid, because in seven short months, Mitch McConnell has run rings around him on issues from Iraq to immigration, and tonight, he just flat-out schooled Reid on how the Senate works, as if to say to Reid you messed with us two nights ago on a PR stunt for your fringe base, here's how things like that can be answered.

ps: stop lying to the American people about how you want to bring those men and women home.
That's a lie.

You won't bring them home, you'll re-deploy them.
Tell the truth...

Well it’s the least I can do. Usually these scumbags lay in the weeds and do their damage. Reid coming out publicly and threatening blackmail is very worrisome. He needs to be slapped down hard. Then we go after Gramma Nancy...

Senator Reid and company do not understand how real and immediate is the danger. They are blinded by their lust for power.

The enemy is only being restrained from an orgy of violence in the US because we have denied them secure training bases and are are keeping them very busy in Iraq. Take away that pressure and give them a gigantic morale boosting victory and they will soon be on a rampage of destruction never before seen.

Bin Laden said that he was encourage to begin his war aginst us because our withdrawal from Somalia after the blackhawk down incident showed that we were a "paper tiger." If we give him and his cronies a victory 100 times as great it will make them believe that anything is possible.

Withdrawal from Iraq without victory will make a nuke attack on the US inevitable within 5 years IMHO. God help us....

Yes, shades of Jimmy Carter, who did the same when he was president.

Its hard to believe that one man could do so much damage in just 4 years. The Shah of Iran predicted that the ME would go the way it has if we abandoned him. How many lives would have been saved if Regan had gotten the nomination in '76 and defeated Carter then?

It might help to also email the big casinos in Vegas since
most of the employees working in them are Union. I would guess
that this is where he gets his money for elections.

Why-O-Why did the good State of Nevada give us this moron!

I did my best by voting against him last time. He won by less than 500 votes. He managed to steal those to beat John Ensign. Ensign later won a seat in the U.S.senate and has generally countered many of Reid’s votes. Most of us in Nevada do not like Reid at all. Unfortunately we do not have term limits to remove him and special interest support him. That includes the culinary union, educrats, dumrats and government workers(an oxymoron). Many other states have the same basic problem. Only the names are different.

I hope voters don’t forget this. What is wrong with the people of Nevada? They are letting a traitor represent them. Shame on the people of Nevada.

Keep the shame on Reid, where it belongs. I don’t want him representing me(he actually doesn’t because I’m 100% against him). He is supported by corrupt unions, ivory tower idiots, government employees, crooks and other assorted types. Those would not be enough to keep him in office, but voter fraud tips the balance.

>Cronyn and Hutchinson are wonderful senators from our state<

If our glorious Senators hadn’t voted for NAFTA we would not be having any immigration problems and the NAU issue wouldn’t even be on the table. Hell, it’s not on the table now. They keep denying it is happening!

I don’t look for recent screw up when I make opinions about trusting legislators. If you were there two terms ago and you have not informed your constituents as to what was going on, then you are a major player in keeping the issue concealed from the constituents.

Why can I say this? NAFTA was a 15,000 page document that the Senate passed without so much as a burp, 234 to 200 Nov, ‘93, because it was good for the economy. OK fine. I’ll swallow that line. Now you come to me 14 years later and try to tell me that you have not yet learned what the true intentions were behind NAFTA? Bullshit!

Mr. Legislator, you learned somewhere along the line through rumors or an honest face to face discussion what was going on with our national sovereignty and why the reluctance on securing the border after 911. The fact that you have not come forward and had a honest face to face discussion informing your constituents about it is treasonous. I would hang your ass from the closest lamppost if I had the authority.

There is not a single person in DC that I would trust with the life of my neighbors cat! This crap about “Cronyn and Hutchinson are wonderful senators from our state” shows me that you are truly ignorant as to what is happening to America. Wake up while we still have a country to fight for!

Thank you for your service.
I’m ashamed of the majority of our politicians.
I want to do something about some of them, but I’m fairly certain God would not be happy with it.

I wonder if the godless realize that God is the only reason they are still breathing.

“I wonder if there are any troops that might take this personal enough to “take their complaints” to the senate?”

I believe that Senators Cornyn and Hutchinson are going to be getting e-mails from me tomorrow.
