Reid: Pull Troops or We Won’t Pay Them
TownHall.com ^ | 20 July 2007 | Amanda Carpenter

If Majority Leader Harry Reid can’t start pulling troops out of Iraq, he doesn’t want to start paying them any more either.

After an amendment to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq within 120 days failed to receive the 60 votes needed to proceed, Reid set the entire defense authorization bill aside. By doing so, he shelved a 3.5 percent pay raise for all uniformed service personnel, $4 billion in equipment upgrades and a new program to treat traumatic brain injuries.

To increase pressure on Republicans to support the measure, sponsored by Sen. Carl Levin (D.-Mich.) and Sen. Jack Reed (D.-R.I.), Reid threw the Senate into an all night session on Tuesday evening that lasted through Wednesday morning. Levin-Reid fell eight votes short, 52-47.

“There are two things that I want to accomplish,” Reid told reporters immediately after the amendment vote. “One is to pass a defense authorization bill, but with a deadline dealing with Iraq. Once we put that together, we'll move forward on it.”

I’m another Vietnam vet, and yes I remember! What I can’t understand, is why don’t folks see that the democrats have been backstabbing the US military ever since VN. Harry Reid is just one of many in a continuous stream of what G.S. Patton would call “yellowbellys”

Dingy Harry is definitely a greater threat to the American people than terrorists.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear.” Marcus Tullius Cicero

great post!

We all need to copy/paste this quote and send it - with no other comment - to every libRAt and Rhino in the Senate - NOW, like in TODAY.

Just send the quote. They wont want to recognize themselves in it, but deep down, they will - and they will know just what we think of them.

As for US: Lincoln also said:

"He has the right to criticize who has he heart to help"

It's nice to commiserate in here with one another - but if we stop there, we are no better than Reid, et al.

You are right! The bill was originally schedule to be brought up and voted on in Sept. Reid pulled it forward, in-spite of Republican protests, just so he could put on a show for moveon.org and other leftist traitors.

We really need to expose the hypocrisy of these pontificating blowhards. Sitting in their ivory towers voting themselves pay raises while voting to deny our troops a meager COLA during wartime.

Im ashamed for these people. They will go down in history as traitors.

This is a political sledgehammer should we be smart enough to wield it

Hubby has been active duty for 16+ years. The politicians do such tricks from time to time, the press panics, and we always get our paycheck right when we’re supposed to. No worries.

This reminds me of what Steyn said about Kerry during the last Presidential election:

RE:John Kerry ''His vote against the first Gulf War was, he says, a sign of his support for the first Gulf War. Whereas his vote in favor of the Iraq war was a sign of his opposition to the Iraq war. And his vote against funding America's troops in Iraq is a sign of his support for America's men and women in uniform. On the same principle, I think the best way voters this November can demonstrate their support for John Kerry is by voting against him.'' -Mark Steyn

I’d agree with you, except we’ve never had a congress like this one.

I wonder if there are any troops that might take this personal enough to "take their complaints" to the senate?

“Dingy Harry is definitely a greater threat to the American people than terrorists.”

This clown is COMPLETELY bought and paid for by everyone fropm Las Vegas land speculators, to MoveOn.

Even the DNC has bowed to the Soros-financed Clinton sycophants at MoveOn. Heard much from Howie lately?

> What is wrong with the people of Nevada? They are letting a traitor represent them. Shame on the people of Nevada.<

I take this personally. We also have Senator Ensign. Where are the Senators from your State. I don’t see them on TV this morning criticizing Reid.

Where are you from, Massachusetts? Are you an American or just wish you were? Why don’t have listed your State on your profile page
