COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- In a study co-authored by an Ohio State professor, whites were asked how much money they'd want if they had to live the rest of their lives as blacks.
The typical answer was about 15-hundred dollars.
Compare that to the one million dollars the same people said they'd need to swear off T-V for the remainder of their lives.
Psychology professor Philip Mazzocco from Ohio State's Mansfield campus says the findings suggest whites aren't bothered by the idea of being black. He says whites may be ignorant of the difficulties many blacks still face because of their skin color.
Of course, a clear demonstration of another great use of our tax dollars. /sarc
Is that Whiteys fault too?"
Bad point to bring up. A lot of Africa's wars today are directly traceable to European rule and setting the borders for today's African nations.
Hey, I’d switch for a sawbuck as long as I got a hugh magic johnson with the package.

"Lord loves a workin' man; don't trust whitey; see a doctor and get rid of it."
However, on the other hand, also agree with what you have written about your own experiences with racism directed at you--experience can give you far more understanding than observation, much less abstract beliefs about the state of racism in this country.
Personally opinion is that too many 'whites' don't have much experience (as in being insulted based on their ancestry up to a few times a year--as single acts, most racisms aren't that bad, but they add up over time, similar to how a cliff can withstand a single wave easily, but a succession of waves could topple the cliff, which doesn't have time to 'rebuild').
Also, suspect, that as with people from all people groups (races), and as demonstrated on this thread, many 'whites' don't respond kindly to criticism against 'their group,' even when that criticism is valid.
flame suit .....That's practically pointless now.
They just don’t make movies like that anymore... :-\
I was ripped off with the refrigerator salesman. And I was ripped off with rotors on my brakes....just two instances I can think of right now. I found out afterwards that I was taken advantage of.
You’re too old or young to remember the Beastie Boys? :O)
I’m calling Bee Ess on this one.
With all due respect, no one knows what anyone but themselves thinks or how they perceive the world. It is human nature to downplay one's faults and emphasize one's victimhood, no matter what race you are. That's why racial discussions are usually fruitless, because no one on either side is ever racist, while they themselves are the constant victims.
Yea, lord knows Africa has been a very peaceful continent before whitey set foot on it.
not.
Go ahead and send me the recipe, I love spicy food.
“Ever spoken to a white person hassled because of the color of their skin?”
I have been, my friends have been. Try going to a Latino swimming pool as a white kid. Or try attending a near all black school in the south.
That's worth a lot more than $1500 right there.
It used to be very common for "urban youths" to either mumble or outright catcall towards white folks who passed them by. You really don't see this anymore in Manhattan, but it still does happen in the more proletarian nabes in the outer boroughs (and urban New Jersey). Even then, the name calling can often be minority on minority, leading often to fights.
Reminds me of a time last year when I was riding the HB Light Rail in Jersey City. This large group of black kids started picking on this light skinned middle eastern kid, who, after one minute of talking, threw a water bottle at them. I thought a fight was going to break out, but the kids shut up.
(Actually a cool Herbie Hancock tune, too)
Perhaps because I, rather, my parents, couldn't afford a prep school - that's pretty lame.
Everybody gets hassled in school for something or another.
In real life, in most large cities you are only blocks away from being the local minority - and from being suspected, hassled, or just stared at for it.
(In Los Angeles county you CAN be pulled over for driving while white - with the resulting vehicle search and unwanted friendly advice.)
There is far more to hold a black person back from within his or her ethnic community than in the surrounding communities - until you get to the earned bias present in public safety and services at all administrative levels.
When a twenty year veteran in the police force or the employment office sees black or white I'm confident that different scripts start to roll based on twenty years of hearing the same stories repeated over and over.
Toss in a third party with a Spanish accent and a whole different kabuki hits the stage (hint - advantage hispanic). Those are things that have to be broken down by experience and by scrapping laws that encourage differentiation - not likely to respond to good intentions.
None of this is a white issue any more than Palestine is entirely an Israeli issue, change will only come when:
1) Youth learns that victim hood is self inflicted, and that being successful does not mean you've abandoned blackness.
And (b) governments cease piling up laws that differentiate between races - laws do not 'fix' human nature.
The other side of that coin is my educated guess that your preppy pals will, to this day, "get black" on management or on a supermarket cashier when it serves their purpose to do so - and most of society will meekly accept it.
PS: Don't rush to misinterpret any of this:
I've known a bunch of white folks who were just as capable of remaining a failure because 'someone didn't like me' or 'I don't have a degree' and I've known a lot of very healthy and successful 'other than white' people who learned just to be what they are and let others do the justifying if they chose to do so.
