From Wikipedia:

"A Letter of Marque and Reprisal is an official warrant or commission from a national government authorizing the designated agent to search, seize, or destroy specified assets or personnel belonging to a party which has committed some offense under the laws of nations against the assets or citizens of the issuing nation, and has usually been used to authorize private parties to raid and capture merchant shipping of an enemy nation."

Will Ron Paul re-appoint Janet Reno and have here send a warrent for these goat molestors?

Letter of Marque? LOL!

"You’d think he’d stayed in a Holiday Inn Express or something!"

Well if they are that comfortable, then I will do my best to counter that. So far, I have been fairly busy, but it is like swatting gnats. They are harmless and don't leave a sting, but sure are annoying.

"He is for constitutionally declared wars not these half ass Wars In Name Only."

Tell that to the 50 million freed people of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Sure, our congress should declare wars like they used to, but they don't. Dubya is saving your ass wether you like it or not.

There you go with your lack of historical perspective again.

How's the multi-billion dollar Nation building exercise going? Caught Osama yet?

Yeah... didn't think so...

You haven't displayed ANY rational views yet. Why would I think you'd start now?

Tell you what, just keep up with the mindless slander. It appears to be your forte...

You think I’m hooked on a “controlled substance”?
I in no means gave any indication that I thought you are or were kooked on a "controlled substance". Why would you think that I did?
I merely corrected you in the manner in which you described something.
(How is that for nuance?)
Not very good at all. And you apparently didn't get the nuance after all.

There you go with your lack of historical perspective again.

Not only is this not an argument but simply an unproven assertion, and it is in fact a disproven assertion since I actually gave some historical perspective which you, signally, did not.

How's the multi-billion dollar Nation building exercise going?

Not an argument.

Caught Osama yet?

Not an argument.

Yeah... didn't think so...

Not an argument.

To recap:

(1) No nation on earth honors letters of marque and reprisal. The United States emphatically does not. Therefore the whole point of letters of marque and reprisal from the perspective of the bearer, i.e. being afforded legal protection when abroad, no longer obtains.

(2) The entire purpose of letters and marque and reprisal from the perspective of the issuer, i.e. creating a financial incentive for private citizens to capture or debilitate the issuer's enemies, is supplied by the current $50M bounty - a far larger sum than anyone would be able to realize simply by capturing whatever goods bin Laden was in possession of when found.

"How's the multi-billion dollar Nation building exercise going?"

I'd bet you would have surrendered at Pearl Harbor using your "logic". Wars aren't won easily, and takes patients and sacrifice. They can't be one by isolation. Isolation is self defeating.

"Caught Osama yet?"

Nope, can't find Hitler or Jimmy Hoffa as well.

"Yeah... didn't think so..."

Being presumptuous is your forte'?

So these letters are specifically NOT mentioned in, or authorized by, our founding documents?

I'm not hear to satisfy your definition of "rational views". I'm hear to remind you Ron Paul supporters of what he has said.

It's my patriotic duty.

Of course they are.

(1) However, the Constitution of the United States cannot compel any other nation to recognize any letters of marque and reprisal issued by the Congress of the United States.

And, as a point of their own domestic laws, no other nation on earth recognizes letters of marque and reprisal issued by the Congress of the United States or any other country.

(2) The Constitution places no obligation on the United States to recognize letters of marque and reprisal issued by any other nation.

And, as a point of our own domestic law, we do not recognize such letters issued by foreign governments as having the force of law.

Congress is authorized by the Constitution to issue letters of marque and reprisal all the livelong day if it desires - but no one outside the United States will recognize those letters as having legal force. It would a completely pointless exercise.

If that were so then why didn't the US sign onto the Treaty of Paris?
And since it's still in the Constitution it is still active. Just because they haven't been used in years doesn't mean the US couldn't issue them.

Er... no. Dumbass. In Pearl Harbor, we were ATTACKED.

Is English your second language? Or are you intentionally trying to one the argument by trying my patients?

Why didn't we level Fallujah when Sadr was holed up there? Why aren't we going into other Countries trying to find the main architect of the attacks against us? Why are we even trying to build a "democracy" when we can't even keep Iranian fighters out of Iraq?

Smash the insurgents in Iraq. Lob nukes at Iran to get them to knock off their crap if necessary. Let Israel smash Hezzbollah once and for all.

Do you honestly think the current "police action and diplomacy" crap is going to do anything other than waste billions of dollars and more US lives?

Time to piss of get off the pot...

“I think it’s helpful. The more people the terrorists have after them, the better. The police have jobs to do beside tracking down bail jumpers, so bounty hunters come in handy.

Same for terrorists. A bounty hunter who lives for the chase is willing to cross from jurisdiction to jurisdiction to track someone down. Quite routinely bounty hunters will go to Mexico to grab someone who jumped bail in California or Texas. They’re more efficient than cops, who would have to notify local Mexican authorities, argue extradition, etc. Red tape dissolves when privateers are around.”

Wideawake is that you?
