Hummer Owner Gets Angry Message

Vandals Batter D.C. Man's SUV, Slash Its Tires and Scratch In an Eco Note

On a narrow, leafy street in Northwest Washington, where Prius hybrid cars and Volvos are the norm, one man bought a flashy gray Hummer that was too massive to fit in his garage. So he parked the seven-foot-tall behemoth on the street in front of his house and smiled politely when his eco-friendly neighbors looked on in disapproval at his "dream car."

It lasted five days on the street before two masked men took a bat to every window, a knife to each 38-inch tire and scratched into the body: "FOR THE ENVIRON."

"The thought of somebody vandalizing it never crossed my mind," said Gareth Groves...

Now, as Groves ponders what to do with the remains of his $38,000 SUV, he has been the target of a number of people who have driven by the crime scene in his upscale neighborhood and glared at him in smug satisfaction...

Neighbor Lucille Liem, 37, who owns a Prius hybrid, said that a common sentiment in the neighborhood is that large vehicles are impractical and a strain on the Earth -- and Hummers in particular are a symbol of consumer excess... Liem added quickly that she does not condone violence...

Investigators said they are searching for the vandals but don't have many leads. Witnesses saw two men about six feet tall with bandanas or masks over their faces smash up the car about 3:30 a.m. Monday and then run off...

He bought the used 2005 vehicle a month ago from a dentist in Fairfax County..."I'm worried about what I do now," he said. "If I get it fixed, do I put it back in the same spot three weeks from now?"

When I purchased my Durango SUV it was for 2 reasons:

1. With a family of 6 I needed a vehicle that could fit all of us. My wife already had a mini van and I didn't want 2 of them.

2. I wanted a vehicle with 4WD for snow conditions and a large enough engine to tow a boat, trailer or anything else.

Prior to my SUV I owned a Subaru 4WD station wagon when I only had 2 kids. It worked well for us. When my SUV's time is up I plan on going back to either another Subaru or a Jeep Wrangler with 4WD, an probably will never take it "off road".

Besides I never realized that God had created the SUV. I thought it was some automotive engineer. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I would be pissed if my neighbor purchased a vehicle that could not fit in their garage

Then you'd be pissed at damn near every Dodge full sized truck owner that has a house with single doors. I bought the driveway for a reason and it's not to let solar heating on concrete help my lawn out.

CurrentTV is running a contest soliciting “ecco commercials” as what we can do to deal with teh current global crisis.

I would submit factually minded conservatives should submit their own commercials.

Environmentalists are just commies.
Global wariming is a tax fraud.
Regulation is for lawyer profits.

His neighbors are like "moderate" Muslims. They probably wouldn't commit violence themselves, but they certainly aren't upset over the radicals who their views to their logical end.

They didn’t bash his car cause it’s a Hummer, they bashed it cause he’s a Chargers fan in a Seachickens town.

BTW—both teams suck.

My buddy had a Dodge Dart Swinger. It was barely holding together but the engine just wouldn’t die.
I thinkback to the days when your buddy was lucky because his parents gave him a piece of junk car. At least it was a car.
Now all the kids are driving around in new cars.

"They send one of your Hummers to the bodyshop, you send one of their Prius's to the scrapyard."

I thought this took place in DC. "Northwest Washington" means the northwest part of the District. This was written by the Washington Post after all.

As I stated in my theory, these are only RECENT. The last 20 years has seen NO real station wagons.

I want to get my boys a VW Bus to restore.

But everyone I say that to says I’m just asking for trouble.

Think of this a sort of the opening shots of the second civil war between the loonie lefties and the rest of us.

Personally, I’d get it fixed and keep watch at night until I caught the idiots returning and turn them into the police.

yeah you should, bc you will feel right at home, we have nearly as many fruits and nuts as your homegrown ones. Alexandria is not quite as bad as Arlington or Falls Church would be, and i can’t speak to Lorton, it is a bit further out. the closer in to DC the worse it is, actually.

I would love to have a car that shows the CRX drivers something real.

CRX? Wow, I rarely see those anymore. The few that I do see tend to be bone-stock rather than decked out in full riceboy regalia.

If you’re not gonna use the SUV for the reason God created it, buy a damn station wagon. This is the same stupid argument that gun control advocates use. This is America and if you want to spend your money on a gas guzzler then it’s no one elses business but your own. If you want to own an M 16 instead of a bolt action again it should be your own business. These evionmental wackos all babble about the President denying there right to an abortion and free medical care but god forbid if you do something they don’t like then it’s the end justifies the means. Bunch of damn hypocrites.
