The plight of Republican Sen. John McCain's campaign for U.S. president conjures up all sorts of mixed metaphors: On a wing and a prayer, teetering on the brink, one foot in the grave, down to his last bullet.
Can he come back from the dead, rise from the ashes, turn the tide, survive to fight another day? Or has the train already left the station?
Political gurus say it will be extremely hard for him to rebound from financial woes, but that one can never completely rule out McCain, the Vietnam war hero and Arizona senator who gave George W. Bush a run for his money in the 2000 election.
"Sen. McCain's standing as an American hero and a stalwart defender of his principles will always get him a seat at the table," said Republican pollster Whit Ayres. "But it's extremely difficult to run a campaign at any level, especially the presidential level, with very limited resources."
"The real question right now is why someone would write a check to the McCain campaign if they have not already done so in the past. I have a hard time coming up with a good answer to that question," Ayres said.

NO
Stick a fork in McCain, he’s done. (In the spirit of the article, I had to use a cliche.)
He was ‘done’ 8 years ago.
I hope not.
I don’t understand the pondering of McCain’s finances.

He has raised $25,328,694
I personally think he should be in jail...but there have been a number of articles that have come out on his fund raising.
I don’t get it.
He's toast.
Yep! Just like this one: Texas Mom Uses Barbecue Meat Fork to Catch Alleged Child Rapist
That woman ROCKS!
It’s The Law! Don’t Interrupt a Texan when they are BBQ-ing!
That container in the fridge that needs to be tossed. There was probably something good in there once apon a time.
When McCain was selling McCain-Feingold he said he wanted to get the money out of politics.
It appears McCain succeeded beyond his wildest hopes, with no need for help from McCain-Feingold.
Can John McCain fight to survive another day?
His only hope at relevency is to admit he isn’t a republican, mount a third party candidacy and convince Lieberman to run with him. Two maverick party outcasts running against the status quo.... I suspect theyd pull in quite a few votes....not enough to get elected, but enough to alter the election significantly.
To answer the original question, yes, he’s toast within the Republican party...if he wants to remain a Republican with any semblance of respect he’d give up the campaign, and endorse his buddy Fred!!! On the other hand, that might be the kiss of death for Fred.
Hopefully, all the Senate debris that supported AMNESTY are toast as well. McCain isn’t the only one that’s going to get dumped, IMO.
He’s toast.
Sorry to disagree, but John McCain is something I stepped into in the barnyard - Stink, Steam and all!
If he were a younger man and not so disliked within his own party, maybe.
Maybe if he begs, Ron Paul will loan McStain some money. Repayable in gold bullion of course.
If that were the case, Fred should pat him on the head and say:”Thanks but no thanks....
I’ve never seen someone go from contender to doormat as fast as McCain did. His “in your face” stand on amnesty was so out of touch with reality, he didn’t even realize he was pulling the pin on his own campaign...A colossal blunder on his part that made him look like the village idiot.
