The body of the slain student, Laura Dickinson, 22, was discovered Dec. 15 in her dorm room. At the time, university officials told her parents and the media that she died of asphyxiation but that there was no sign of foul play, despite evidence to the contrary.
It wasn't until another Eastern student was arrested in late February and charged with murder that her family and fellow students learned she had been raped and killed.
The accused student, Orange Taylor III, of Southfield, has pleaded not guilty to murder and criminal sexual conduct charges in Dickinson's death. He is scheduled for trial Oct. 15.
Many in the university's administration were accused of covering up the truth and endangering students to protect the school's image, which has been marred in recent years by tensions with faculty, students and the community.
Robert Dickinson, the young woman's father, said anybody implicated in the federal report "should probably expect the same" fate as Fallon.
"I fire my baristas if they do wrong," said Dickinson, who owns a coffee house. "The board of this school should do whatever they need to do. They need to follow the rules that they have set forth."
The board was expected to meet later Monday to discuss the case. Still undetermined was the status of Vice President of Student Affairs Jim Vick and Public Safety Director Cindy Hall. University spokeswoman Pamela Young said she couldn't discuss Fallon until after the meeting.
Howard Bunsis, president of the faculty union, said Monday that everyone involved in covering up information about Dickinson's slaying should no longer be working for the university.
"It's now time for the university to move forward," Bunsis

Was this the same bozo that had the 10,000 square foot house built for the President while he was president?
(I should not call him a bozo, its unfair to Bozos)
.
Doesn’t Michigan employ a couple of convicted Weather Underground nut cases as tenured professors?
This doesn’t surprise me in the least.
YPSILANTI, Mich. The president of Eastern Michigan University was fired, months after top university officials were accused of covering up the rape and slaying of a student by publicly ruling out foul play.
The president, John Fallon, confirmed that he was fired Sunday evening by a unanimous vote of the Board of Regents, The Ann Arbor News reported in its Monday editions. Board secretary Jackie Kurtz on Monday confirmed the firing to The Associated Press.
Fallon told the newspaper that his termination letter was delivered Sunday night and did not state a reason for his firing. The letter said the board had voted unanimously to terminate his employment contract effective Sunday two years after his five-year contract took effect.
"As a citizen, I am disappointed in this hastily called meeting, without any opportunity to be present or to respond," Fallon told the newspaper. "I have a story to tell and intend to tell it."
The president's dismissal follows an independent law firm investigation and U.S. Department of Education report, both of which found that the 23,500-student public university violated the federal Clery Act, which requires colleges and universities to disclose campus security information....
Reading the quote, without clicking on the link, tells me nothing about the univ. pres. That’s not a comment on your c/p ability, it’s a comment on the newswriter’s. Maybe it’s time they fed the monkeys?
Doesn't this make them accessories?
ML/NJ
an autopsy would have been performed - how could this be covered up?
This is something I don’t see in this part of the article.
This is Eastern Michigan, not UofM (boo hiss)
Go State!
....so, a black man is accused of assaulting and killing a white woman?
This is obvious racism....
Seems like more than just university officials should be concerned for their job. How about the hospital emergency personnel? Attending physicians? The funeral home? Anywhere along that chain someone should have noticed indications of trauma. Was there no police investigation? A coroner?
Unless the university had her secretly cremated and just delivered ashes to her parents, someone should have noticed this. Incredible.
This is Eastern Michigan, not UofM (boo hiss)
Go State!
Thanks, As usual the MSM is ‘vague’.
I am sick of “It’s time to move forward,”
when all the speaker means is,
“We’re ignoring the horror and living for movement
that propels us away from the consequences
of our misdeeds.”
I’m sick of people buying it, mindlessly.
Thanks for your post.
Is that Orange Taylor wearing an orange jumpsuit?
Thing of it is. If I had a daughter who died while at a university, the university could have told me that a trio of the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and Spongebob Squarepants had killed her. OK so what? Why would I believe anything the university says especially given the fact that they almost certainly have liability issues? That’s crazy! That would be like accepting the version of the other driver in a traffic accident.
If I’m in that position I’m going to believe the official police reports if I believe anything.
Unlesss —— this is one of those deals where the university is the “controlling legal authority”. (And they may well be).
Which is to say that the local police force, DA etc. etc. have no say whatsoever in the official communications?
If that is the case, all I can say is that that’s messed up.
No hospital, no emergency room - she’d been dead three days.
But the poor girl was half-naked, semen on her leg, a pillow over her head - so I guess the university felt comfortable telling her parents she’d been asphyxiated. And comfortable leaving other young women ignorant of a predator.
There was a security video showing the accused entering the dormitory and leaving with a gift bag from the victim’s room. The suspect was not questioned until 40 days after the crime. How long did it take the police to get the video and match it to a suspect?
Mrs VS
WRONG! Everyone involved in covering up information about Dickinson's slaying should be on trial for obstruction of justice.
