Michael Moore’s Next Film To Take On Homophobia? (gag)
Slashfilm ^ | July 11th, 2007 | Peter Sciretta

Michael Moore has tackled Downsizing, School Shootings, the culture of fear, The Iraq War, President Bush, and most recently - the American healthcare system. What’s next for the controversial documentary filmmaker? Homophobia. That’s right, Moore has revealed that homophobia and the anti-gay Christian right movement might be the topic of his next documentary.

“I think it’s a very ripe subject for someone like me to make a movie about. Simply because we are not there yet and it remains one of the last open wounds on our soul that we are not willing to fix yet,” Moore told The Advocate. “There is nowhere in the four Gospels where Jesus uses the word homosexual.’ The right wing has appropriated this guy … and they have used him to attack gays and lesbians, when he never said a single word against people who are homosexual. Anyone who professes to be a Christian and does that is certainly not following the teachings of Jesus Christ.”

Gay marriage has certainly become one of the hot button issues in this country. I can imagine the movie now: Moore will probably bring a Gay couple to a catholic church to get married. But when the parish turns him away, and Moore will pull out some clever funny idea that will get America to think “why not?”

By the way I meant to say people like Moore say hating gay marriage is hating gays. I don’t agree with that.

“There is nowhere in the four Gospels where Jesus uses the word homosexual."

Maybe because "homosexual" is an English term that came into use in the 19th Century?

Did Jesus ever speak against sexual immorality? Would "sexual immorality" have been understood by the largely Jewish audience to include homosexual acts?

I think fat boy's coming out of the closet on this one.

Nowhere in the four Gospels does Jesus use the word "Beastiality", but I am pretty sure He wouldn't want me dating sheep.

I don't want dandilions in my backyard. That doesn't mean I'm frightened of weeds.

Have you ever run up against the "If you disapprove of gays it probably means you are one" faux-arguement? I like to respond that by that reasoning, if I disapprove of stealing on a moral ground, it must mean I am secretly a thief. The logic breaks down after a point.

Well said. A much better analogy than mine. I'm stealing it.

he [Jesus] never said a single word against people who are homosexual.

Liar

Jesus often condemns sin and compares the consequences to the sin of Sodom. Here is one of dozens.

Matthew 11:24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

M. Moore would affirm the stereotype that people opposed to the gay rights movement are right-wing and fundamentalist Christian. Voters in 26 states, however, voted to affirm traditional marriage by wide margins. In liberal Oregon, the amendment passed by 58%. Does he think that all those voters are right-wing and evangelical? I’m not arguing against Christianity; I’m just saying that some of us oppose the gay rights movement for other reasons. For example,
1. The anus is not built for sex. It’s an exit hole. It evolved to allow the body to eliminate its wastes and is not good at fighting off infection.
2. Sodomy and promiscuity are public health problems.
3. Homosexuals are very likely to be involved in both sodomy and promiscuity.
4. It is therefore not good to promote this life style to youth.
5. Children do best when they have parents who are married and are of the opposite sex.
I have yet to see the mainstream media objectively report on why people oppose the gay rights movement.
