Senior U.S. intelligence officials tell ABC News new intelligence from Afghanistan suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the United States, or may already be here.
The White House has convened an urgent multi-agency meeting for Thursday afternoon to deal with the new threat.
Top intelligence and law enforcement officials have been told to assemble in the Situation Room to report on:
--what steps can be taken to minimize or counter the threat,
--and what steps are being taken to harden security for government buildings and personnel.
"It suggests they have information that the cell or cells coming this direction want to attack a government facility," Brad Garrett, a former FBI agent and ABC News consultant, said.
Law enforcement officials say the recent failed attacks in London have provided important new clues about possible tactics.
And officials say the London attackers use of the Internet left important clues that are being used to decode other e-mails that had initially been deemed unimportant but are now taking on new significance.

“Maybe if they attack congress they may get serious about securing the borders?” That would probably be the ONLY thing that would do it.
Absolutely they are already here. Hundreds, I would guess. This is not to say that there is no a "special ops" team on the way.
Around 2000, a group of young Arab men living together in a house in Charlotte, NC was sent to prison for cigarette smuggling. They had substantial links to the ~first~ WTC bombing perps. This was stated by the FBI and published in the newspaper. And, of course, this was before 9/11. The presumption, even then, was that they were terrorists, if not actual button men then at least part of the infrastructure.
I see no reason to think this was a unique matter. I haven't made it my particular business to try to follow all these bits and pieces, but I have no doubt whatever that there are numerous, NUMEROUS, such operations in place now in the U.S. They may not be directly controlled by AQ, but they are here for jihad.
Walking over the southern border as we type.
Right - “ABC” could stand for “Al qaeda’s Buddy Collaborators”.
That's no problem, you know. Mr. Bush's HLS team actually has put in place a lot of camerars.
Now, we are able to watch them as they walk across!
Well then, Brian Ross and ABC, it must be time to open our borders to illegals. Ross and ABC are as dumb as a box of hammers. We’d no doubt do better in the WOT if they’d just shut up.
In every dark cloud...
If [Congress and the President ] wanted to protect the country, they would be doing it. By now it's apparent they want to destroy the United States of America.Unproductive and inane.
Where is the map of the US that used to be posted here that showed where these cell are ? ( they are already here )
You think Al Queda has jumped the gun.
7/11??
hmmm
Nancy Pelosi should shut the H-— up. It’s our only chance for success.
My guess is 9/11
A White House spokeswoman confirmed that after the attempted attacks in the United Kingdom, the U.S. government convened meetings to discuss the situation but added there was no credible evidence of an imminent threat.
“Counter-terrorism officials regularly meet, that is not unusual. We are taking all threats seriously and working to ensure we can keep the terrorists from striking at innocent people,” White House spokeswoman Emily Lawrimore said in an e-mail.

I seriously think they would do it! Ofourse they would be more careful not to leak the attack until it was already carried out successfully.
Tarmac is asphaltic
and now mother Sheehan plans to run against her
Uh..... meet them at the airport and send them packing? Or would that be too difficult?
