Al Qaeda Cell in the U.S. Or On Its Way, According to New Intel (ABC's Brian Ross)(On Drudge)
ABC ^ | July 10, 2007 | Brian Ross

Senior U.S. intelligence officials tell ABC News new intelligence from Afghanistan suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the United States, or may already be here.

The White House has convened an urgent multi-agency meeting for Thursday afternoon to deal with the new threat.

Top intelligence and law enforcement officials have been told to assemble in the Situation Room to report on:

--what steps can be taken to minimize or counter the threat,

--and what steps are being taken to harden security for government buildings and personnel.

"It suggests they have information that the cell or cells coming this direction want to attack a government facility," Brad Garrett, a former FBI agent and ABC News consultant, said.

Law enforcement officials say the recent failed attacks in London have provided important new clues about possible tactics.

And officials say the London attackers use of the Internet left important clues that are being used to decode other e-mails that had initially been deemed unimportant but are now taking on new significance.

Maybe the press can be on the tarmac waiting for the terrorists to get off the plane and interview them, just as they tried during the Somalia operation years ago as our brave men were trying to make it on the beach at night, alive.

If they try to come thru Mexico, there is very little to stop them. President Bush needs to do his job and honor his oath of office.

But I thought Chertoff was protecting the borders and all. Does this mean all we have going for us is vigilance?

Gee, I knew I felt a little tingle on my neck when I drove through NYC and DC this morning. Yikes.

And the radiation should be gone by the time I have to go back....

Contact, her Highness, Nancy Pelosi, who has an answer for everything. Let her solve this terrorist threat. Oh, I forgot, she doesn’t think there is such a thing as a terrorist nor a war on terror. Queen Pelosi and her court jesters (Kennedy, Reid, Kerry, Feinstein, Boxer, et al.) live in their Twilight Zone of Liberal Insanity where there is no threat to America except the GOP, George Bush, and the uneducated masses.

Ah, wouldn’t a little border security be nice right about now. I never thought that I’d consider impeachment of a Republican President, but the Bush administration has failed when it comes to protecting our borders, and I fear people are going to die as a result. ...all because the big campaign contributors want cheap Mexican labor.

It would surprise me if they aren’t already here. The immigration situation is such a mess, there’s no telling WHO is here, and how long they’ve been here. I’m not talking about the southern border only—I’m concerned about it, but also the visa overstays and other abuses, and who and what comes over the Canadian border. (Remember the TB guy? Although he was on a don’t let him in list, the border guard figured he knew better. What else do they second guess?)

I for one would hate to see any more terrorism in this country, but a large chunk of it needs to be yanked back into the reality of what these people are and what they want to do to us. A bombing may do it, but I fear someday we will have more of those Washington snipper types. I think that would be more devastating.

It’s urgent, but the meeting is called for Thursday and today is already Tuesday. Why publicize this at this time and also set a meeting for two days hence?

Except for the ABC paid expert, no names were given beyond “senior intelligence officials”.

If this is accurate, the USA sounds like a bunch of amateurs, with nothing in place, who are mostly afraid of attacks on government installations by a “small” AQ cell that is either on its way or already here. What, only one? And they have no idea whether this cell is already here or not?

Perhaps if they enter via the southern border and attack Congress, our overlords will get serious about security.

As long as you don’t have to go back for 10,000 years, it’s okay.........

Great to have this blasted all over the main stream drive-by news outlets. Wouldn’t want to have something happen without being warned first!

Truly. I don't understand why government officials don't act if only because they personally fear for their own safety. Terrorists don't like them or us.

Expel any Muslim who will not take a loyalty oath.

(Catch-22 -- they can't -- it's forbidden).

I’m sure that the supposed Cell is on the way - to join cells already here. With no effective border control, what has there been to stop said terrorist infiltration?

In all honesty, I am super surprised that we have not seen another major attack in the last nearly 6 years. I have no doubt there are terrorists among us.

For that matter - I am also surprised there hasn’t been another group to begin terrorist acts - those shunned by the shutdown of the shamnesty bill...

This should be no surprise.

Al-Qaeda tested Clinton late in his last term. He didn’t do much in response, because it was late in his term.

I would fully expect al-Q to have a plan to test Bush Admin in its final months. Would Bush be reluctant to make a major counter strike, if we were hit?

I would also fully expect al-Q to have a plan to test the next new administration within its first year.

Al-Qaeda and radical Islamists have been at war with us for decades.
