Sen. Schumer Furious With Bush Over Libby

New York Sen. Charles Schumer late Monday expressed angry opposition to President George W. Bush's commutation of 'Scooter' Libby's prison sentence.

Libby was convicted in March of lying and obstructing an investigation into who revealed the identity of a CIA officer, Valerie Plame, whose husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had criticized the Iraq war.

"I’m outraged,” blasts Schumer in a flurry of e-mails being shotgunned across the nation by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

Schumer urges recipients to sign a sharp petition directed to President Bush:

"George Bush has commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby and wiped away two and a half years of prison time with the stroke of his pen. President Bush is willfully ignoring Libby’s felony conviction, ignoring the jury’s guilty verdict, and ignoring the rule of law. Our nation deserves better.

"Tell George Bush: "I’m appalled by your actions."

Schumer adds, "We need to show Bush his actions just aren’t acceptable.”

"We expect more from our president,” laments the senator. "We expect honor and integrity, we expect moral leadership. We expect our president and his staff to be held to a higher standard.”

Schumer concludes, "It’s at times like these that I realize just how important a strong Democratic Senate is to our nation. Democrats are fighting the Republican’s abuse of power but we can’t do it without your help.”

The DSCC reminds recipients that it is picking up the tab for the petition and the communications and that no candidate or candidate’s committee has authorized the petition.

You seem to be saying that Schumer, a US senator is a two-faced hypocrite? Not a NY Senator! How could that happen?

"And whose wrist would Schumer slash, d'you suppose?"

With any luck, his own.

But that's not the idea. The two adversaries are lashed together by one wrist each so they can't get away from each other. The other hand holds the blade. Your opponent's wrist is typically not the best target in such a scenario.

Say there Senator Schumer!

Did you follow that thinking when you voted on Impeachment of one William Jefferson Clinton?

Stupid SOB!

I completely understood that. I was breaking funny.

I recall reading a biography of John Wesley Hardin 40+ years ago, and the writer described a knife fight Hardin got into that was similar to that.

It was so horrifying that I’ve never forgotten it.

How the heck can you obstruct justice of a fact already known by the judge. Fitz’s “sand in my eyes” statement comes to mind. Fitz LIED because he always knew what was going on from the beginning.

Lots of honor and integrity from Bubba....A President who perjured himself IN A COURT OF LAW and LIED directly to millions of people on TV.

I'll always remember Bubba saying that "if I had told the truth I TV at that time, I knew I would have been impeached".
