PHONE-CALL MUTINY; HOW CITIZENS FELLED THE BORDER BILL (gov't OF, BY and FOR the people prevailed)
NY POST ^ | June 30, 2007 | RICH LOWERY

Posted on 06/30/2007 5:23:48 AM PDT by Liz

BEWARE of an aroused citizenry. It's an admonition that should be ingrained in the brain of any run-of-the-mill politician, let alone someone who has ascended to the United States Senate. But from the Olympian heights of the world's greatest deliberative body, it is often forgotten. So senators got a reminder in the humiliating defeat of a "comprehensive" immigration bill that had the support of the president of the United States, a bipartisan group of senators with the blessing of the leaders of their caucuses and the support of the editorial boards of the country's most important newspapers.

About time they remembered that they work for us — not the other way around.

Man, that would make a great tagline.

Thanks. Your format is much better. I wrote mine in a rage! LOL!

Did you hear Mort Kondracke telling how some senators were “scared” because of all the opposition to amnesty? They actually believed they were above reproach!

.......they tried to sneak-slam amnesty through......however, they got caught. Bush got both eyes blackened, the Senate got a harsh lesson in humility and the house got the total bejeezus scared out of them......

N-i-c-e summation.

It marks the end of an era.

It does, and it seems that the out of touch senators are reeling in the new found reality. Rich Lowry sums it up- “[they need to] get used to it. . . “.

a venal, corrupt, unprincipled, anti-democratic gang of usurpers

On the surface, for public view, they appear to be two diametrically opposing political parties.

Underneath, many from both parties have merged into a sub-party moving in the same direction.

That is the problem with having only two major political parties -- they become much of the same.

In some of the most recent political decisions/debates, tape over the party label and it would be difficult to discern which where of Party A and which were of Party B.

When the President who is the de facto leader of one party is glad to "have a Congress we can work with" of the opposite party, that signals that something is very wrong with the two-party political system.

When the leaders of both parties are pushing an agenda that 80% of the pubic is against, that signals that something is very wrong with the two-party political system.

When elected representatives (Senators, for example) turn off their phones, delete their emails, and shun their faxes to push an agenda 80% of the public oppose, that signals that something is very wrong with the two-party political system.

The American people are not the mutineers. It’s the other way around.

The bill was only the first half of the problem. Now WE must shut the border if the elites will not.

Indylindy, you are correct.

If you don’t mind- It might help us to also thank the Almighty for this victory for which many of us prayed. We’ll need that kind of help in the future.

The Framers would be proud.

I posted this in several threads the day Amercians won the defeat of the amnesty bill:

Dear Ben Franklin,

We managed today to hold on to the Republic.

It was under attack from within — by politicians who were supposed to be our leaders. They tried to circumvent The Constitution and subdue the Republic. But the massive voices of the people overwhelmed the Senate phone system today.

America spoke — loudly. And many Senators heard.

The Republic still stands.

Lou Dobbs deserves a healthy measure of praise for his work in killing the amnesty bull.

Many deserve kudos for the massive effort.

In this latest round, I give CNN credit. They presented this bill as 'legalizing millions when it is signed'. CNN presented much more depth of coverage than FoxNews did. Foxnews was too busy running the most recent tabliodtrash.

It may have been very different if they over ran the second amendment prior to the phone calls. SPP is coming.
