Arizona Sen. John McCain has introduced federal legislation to protect talk radio shows from the reinstatement of past rules that required dissenting voices be given equal time on their shows.
McCain and fellow GOP Senators John Thune of South Dakota and Norm Coleman of Minnesota have put forward legislation preventing the reinstatement of the 'Fairness Doctrine'.
The Fairness Doctrine was done away with in 1987 but previously required political radio shows to offer equal time to opposing viewpoints as part of their Federal Communications Commission licenses.
A number of Democrats and liberal advocates want the Fairness Doctrine put back in place. They do not like the fact talk radio is dominated by conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and Laura Ingraham.
McCain said imposing such rules would stifle free speech and there are plenty of political viewpoints in the marketplace.
Conservative radio talkers have criticized McCain for his stance in favor of immigration reform.
I agree. It’s too late for him to win me over...but he may be on the road to recovery.
As usual McCain is a day late and a dollar short. Pence took care of this problem in the House last night.
McCain better stick to his NYT editorial board ass kissing. It is too late to make up with everyday Americans.
I’m surprised that McCain isn’t on the other side of this issue, since “talk radio killed” his immigration bill.
I don’t like him, I’ll never again trust him- but GOOD for him for doing this anyway!
Well that should make everything alright. Ha!
I would like John McCain to spend his time on a plan to deport the illegal immigrants... preferably yesterday !!!
That means all illegal immigrants not just the obvious Mexicans. There are illegals from many countries in the States. Get rid of them...now..
Maybe require all professors and reporters to declare their political affiliation and make sure that they are equally divided among Dems and Republicans.
My good friend's father cannot get a job as a professor anymore since he has been successfully identified as a conservative, or 'right-winger'. He lives in Berkeley.
That would freak out the Dems.
Thank goodness for the Internet. We can make and post our own videos, like this one:
A sign of McCain staying in the Presidential race. Good. McCain’s presence only serves to drain votes away from Giuliani.
Too late Mc-shame.
McCain, pandering AGAIN
I had to read that twice. Isn't that exactly what McCain-Feingold did?
McCain is sort of a tragic figure in US politics. He has the assets to hold ALL the cards in every race he runs. He also has the ratings in overall career development. Yet he steadfastly insists on being on the wrong side away from his base on most of the really salient issues in our era.
Sometimes I think he has a fear of success and knows that he is better off running and could never get the job done if he actually won. Maybe he also enjoyed too much the limelight provided by the wrong people over the years.
Too little, too late. Damage control. It’s the very opposite of McCain-Feingold.
I am begging his folks to take me off their email list.....he is done...kaput....stick a fork in his funky self....go home McLame....
