A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 200,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

--"Diana's Cat" (é 1996-2007 by Cheryl Robertson)
THE CAT AND THE MOON -by William Butler Yeats
The cat went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon,
The creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For, wander and wail as he would,
The pure cold light in the sky
Troubled his animal blood.
Minnaloushe runs in the grass
Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet.
What better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
Tired of that courtly fashion,
A new dance turn.
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead
Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
His changing eyes.
--David Delamare
The Crescent-Moon, The Star of Love
by Wordsworth, William (1842)
The Crescent-moon, the Star of Love,
Glories of evening, as ye there are seen
With but a span of sky between—
Speak one of you, my doubts remove,
Which is the attendant Page and which the Queen?

Whitewater Experiences
READ: 1 Chronicles 28:9-20
Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD Godmy Godwill be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. 1 Chronicles 28:20
I was enjoying the start of my first whitewater rafting experienceuntil I heard the roar of the rapids up ahead. My emotions were flooded with feelings of uncertainty, fear, and insecurity at the same time. Riding through the whitewater was a first-rate, white-knuckle experience! And then, suddenly, it was over. The guide in the back of the raft had navigated us through. I was safeat least until the next set of rapids.
Transitions in our lives are like whitewater. The inevitable leaps from one season of life to the nextcollege to career, singleness to marriage, career to retirement, marriage to widowhoodare all marked by uncertainty and insecurity.
In one of the most significant transitions recorded in Old Testament history, Solomon assumed the throne from his father David. Im sure he was filled with white-knuckle uncertainty about the future. His fathers advice? Be strong and of good courage, and do it; . . . for the LORD Godmy Godwill be with you (1 Chronicles 28:20).
Youll have your fair share of tough transitions in life. But with God in your raft youre not alone. Keep your eyes on the One who is navigating the rapids. Hes taken lots of others through before. Smooth waters are just ahead. Joe Stowell
I am safe when danger threatens,
For Im trusting Christ the Lord;
Since He promised Hell be with me,
Though I fear, my faiths restored. Hess
God will guide you through the rapids of change.

Oh, my goodness! It is almost unreal how much alike your table posts/colors are! Kitty, you have
arrived when yours can be compared to Meg's. A compliment to both of you - this is absolutely, positively, without question, simply breathtaking!
Meg's always are, and I'm in awe at how quickly yours are becoming just as!

Well, Megsie, I would say you've been outside my backyard - except for this fence is stucco instead of brick, and except that I don't have huge flowering, colorful trees like that. :) I guess it's not my backyard at all. LOL
