Voinovich self-destructs on Hannity
WorldNetDaily ^ | June 27, 2007

WASHINGTON – Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, misunderstood the results of a vote on an amendment to the "comprehensive immigration reform" bill being debated in the upper house today.

He also is apparently unfamiliar with efforts to re-impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters operating on the public airwaves.

But it was nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Sean Hannity's persistent grilling about the senator's intentions on key cloture votes leading to a showdown on what is characterized as an "amnesty" bill that caused Voinovich to melt down before millions of listeners today.

The normally low-profile Republican hung up on the No. 2 talk host in the country.

The key sticking point in the conversation was Hannity's question as to whether the senator had done a cost analysis on the bill. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank, estimates the bill would cost the American taxpayers $2.5 trillion.

Voinovich said he didn't believe the cost would be that high because a third of those eligible for a path to citizenship would never take it.

"How do you know that?" Hannity asked. "Where does that figure come from?"

Voinovich did not provide any supporting evidence for his contention and admitted he had read neither the bill itself or the Heritage Foundation analysis.

The senator complained that some of his constituents have attempted to "intimidate" him by saying they would oppose his re-election if he voted for the bill.

"You do not intimidate George Voinovich," he said. "During my 40 years in this business, I have always looked at the pros and cons of each piece of legislation and made a determination. If people don't like my decision, they can express their will during the next election."

Heard the whole thing, stunning, just stunning:

-Guy did not read the bill

-Guy has no clue what the Fairness Doctrine talk is all about

-Guy counters Heritage Foundation numbers with his improvised, rule of thumb numbers

But the best part, Voinovich told Hannity: I voted on such and such Hutchison amendment that we passed today TO MAKE THE BILL BETTER blah blah blah...

Turns out his stupid amendment FAILED. He voted on the stupid thing, never hung around to find out what happened to it, and goes on radio to blabber "we passed it".

Thank you for doing so. Everyone who calls to try and stop the Amnesty Bill is a patriotic soldier in our war to keep our sovereignty and culture!! If America’s laws mean anything, 50 million people cannot break the law & get rewarded for it!!

I heard the exchange on the way to my youngest’s hockey game. Sean was brilliant. He took no crap nor was he intimidated. It was the smackdown of arrogance and exposed just how out of touch Washington is with those of us who care about our sovereignty, borders and culture.

One thing has become clear. Washington is beholden to big corporate money and we just might need another Boston Harbor and/or a pitchfork/axe handle march on Washington.

I heard the interview with George Voinovich, and it was a total MELTDOWN!

Sean nailed the guy, Voinovich even realized it.

Voinovich is GONE, next election.

Hannity could have shredded this dim bulb but instead chose to follow his stated purpose and subject and let the chips fall. Which gave the Senator every opportunity to shine.

But...

Sen V showed the size of his brain on his first statement about the Fairness Doctrine, which was a quip by Hannity and just happened. Then, Sticking to subject, Hannity hit him over the head with a few stats, a few procedural questions and Clown V kept digging a deeper hole.

The Senator did the smartest thing he could have done,,, Hang up.

Howdy Doodie or Andy Devine’s Froggie could have tripped up this ‘40 year incumbent’.

Hannity did a better job then Howdy Doodie, but Froggie could have done better. :-)

Unbelievable. These people think Senator is an inherited title, apparently.

“Would someone stand up and champion this cause?”

I will. This should be the only issue with the populace of the USA. There is no other cause as compelling as term limits. These morons have proven that they cannot handle the security of this nation and the laws that come with it.

Throw all of them out. Let’s petition the government. Get a web site and get a few million signatures.
