The Honor of Ron Paul - Joseph Sobran

The Honor of Ron Paul by Joe Sobran

"He may have become at last what he has always deserved to be: the most respected member of the U.S. Congress. He is also the only Republican candidate for president who is truly what all the others pretend to be, namely, a conservative. His career shows that a patriotic, pacific conservatism isn’t a paradox."

I hope to be the exception, then. ;)

You and Lurker are the exceptions. ;-)

So *you* clearly considered this a joke, and thought it was humorous someone would ask for a link.

Yep, I sure did.

And I and the people I work with regularly make jokes about bombs, explosions and getting shot at as well.

You'd hate being around us.

But, we don't really care. ;-)

Happy Fourth!

Maybe, maybe not. And don't know how 198 generated this response. I'm a combat vet from a older war. Funny, I recall at the time joking about all kinds of stuff, lots of good laughs etc... But I never recall making the kinds of jokes you're referring to. I never found getting shot at fun, or humorous. Years later, I just do my best just to try and forget it. Maybe it's a generational thing.

Best of luck to you, and have a happy 4th.

We don't think gettng shot at and mortared is funny. We make jokes about it to relieve the tension. Gallows humore has been around for ages and is touted by many experts as being a healthy way of dealing with a stressful situation.

It certainly has its benefits.

Having a "sick" sense of humor is an asset here.

Thank you for your service.

RonPaulus of Borg says resistance is futile and you will be assimilated....

Seriously, does anyone outside Ron Paul's camp followers take this guy seriously?

“I find it interesting that many of the people here who speak against Ron Paul are doing it in a most vile fashion.”

Anyways, most of them are keyboard warriors. Do you think they’re out campaigning for their guy like Ron Paul supporters are?

If you’re not already joined up with your local Meetup group, be sure to check out ronpaul.meetup.com and GET OUT THERE!!!

False. Modern (post-1776)Conservatism is generally traced to Edmund Burke(’Reflections on the Revolution in France’). The contemporary American Conservative movement (post-mid-1950s) is generally traced to Russell Kirk (’The Conservative Mind’), Wm. F. Buckley Jr., elements of the Old Right(e.g. Robt. Taft), libertarians, and general anti-communist/anti-totalitarians.

Our Ron Paul group here in NH was in a parade yesterday campaigning for Ron Paul. Over the last 3 days I’ve seen more out-of-State Democrat supporters of Obama and Hillary then I thought possible. Using my trusty bullhorn, I started yelling at them (amongst crowds of people at parades and festivals over the past few days):

FREE GOVERNMENT CHEESE SANDWICHES TO ALL OUT-OF-STATE HILLARY AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS! BUT HURRY! THE NEXT BUS TO WHATEVER STATE THEY’RE SENDING YOU TO NEXT LEAVES IN 5 MINUTES!!!

Only 1 girl said she was from New Hampshire. The rest were from NY, MA, CA, DE, etc. Proved my point well enough and I got a good reaction from the locals, even the local Democrats.

WHAT, DID YOU LEAVE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR ON THE BUS, OR THE LAST STATE THEY BUSSED YOU IN FROM??

Trust me, there is nothing worse than a humorless Democrat!

PS- the $60 I paid for the bullhorn was way worth it!! hahahaha

Unfortunately, many here aren't big enough to admit they were wrong on the Iraq war. They'll sell the country down the tubes before they admit their error. Because of this, they are unable to see Ron Paul for the honorable man he is (look we've even got one buffoon here who will slander Joe Sobran rather than rethink his position on the war). This single-issue thinking will lead us to one of two alternatives:
  1. A Bush clone - a liberal in conservative clothing, who by plastering a conservative label on leftist policies gives them cover and moves the center leftwards.
  2. Another 4 years of Clinton presidency.
Paul is the last chance to put the Republican Party back on track, but I doubt most of the folks here have the intestinal fortitude for that. They'll sit back, push another establishment clone, and treat this whole thing like it's a football game. It's win at all costs, regardless of what it does to their country.

Post 212 - very self-righteous and "everybody who doesn't agree with me is soooo wrong." Do you work for CNN?

Do you get nosebleeds way up there on that pedestal?

Just curious.

...and the American public has completely turned against the war.

Yes, the media has been very successful in completely snowing the public on the war.

And you, the American people back home who think surrender is the right option, have enabled that.

Congratulations.

but the fact is that the invasion of Iraq has delivered nothing that was promised...

Regime change. Done.

Democratic voting process. Done. Now, there's where a lot of people have been deceived. Perhaps it's TV shows like 24 or whatever the hot show back home is these days, that have people believing that this should have all been wrapped up neatly in some predetermined timeframe.

The reality is that no new democracy has ever settled into place without several years of growing pains. This is no different.

These people have had one election to choose their leaders. It was the first time for all of them. Many of them have expressed to me personally that they voted with their hearts and it was a mistake they won't make again. Democracies do not settle in overnight.

The fact is, there has been amazing progress made that the media simply refuses to report. You can find a lot of that information on the milblogs and places like the MNFI site. We are at a point right now where it would be absolutely criminal to surrender.

As for the Iraqis not welcoming us - well, that's also a lot of media bunk. The majority of Iraqis are terrified at the prospect of us leaving right now. Even the Sunni insurgency is coming around now and turning on al Qaeda, which is a HUGE step.

I've been here three and a half years, so there is little the spinners back home can say to influence my opinion. I see the reality and it barely resembles the crap the media spews forth day after day.

I can tell you that the military here on the ground is thoroughly disgusted with the idiots back home calling for surrender because they can see what an incredibly stupid idea it is. There are a few dissenters from that, but they are in a very tiny minority and every one of them has been touted by the media and the left.

Has it been executed perfectly? Of course not. Have there been mistakes made? Certainly. Is it a failure? Absolutely NOT.

Name me one war where there were not mistakes made. This would be even farther along had it not been for the media and the left aiding and encouraging the enemy with their nasty, agenda-driven rhetoric.
