Chris Matthews bushwacks Ann Coulter by setting up a call from Elizabeth Edwards during his full hour with Coulter on Hardball last night.
Mrs. Edwards gets owned by Ann Coulter when it is brought up the sleezy tactics that Edwards (A Democrat candidate for President of the United States of America) has used in his profession as an Attorney that exploits doctors and children for his own enrichment.
Here's one of my favorite "blasts from the past.."
In 1940, during the Senate debate of FDR's lend lease proposal, Idaho GOP Senator William Borah thundered that if it past, it will drag the nation into an overseas conflict that "will plow under every fourth American boy.."

I must disagree with you. We do not need to raise the tone of the debate. The Liberals will never debate the facts of an issue; they must avoid the facts at all costs because it destroys their point of view. You can only fight at he elevated level if your opponent agrees to the rules.
Liberals will always go on the personal attack level because they have no other playbook. Also, when they attack at the personal level and you work the facts, the lower level (personal) attacks will be printed in the media and the Conservative response will appear weak and ineffective. People have been tuned to ignore logical thinking and they are attracted by the sensationalism.
When Ann Coulter attacks, it makes news for a whole set of complicated reasons that all work against the liberal mindset. Here is a very intelligent and attractive woman with a Conservative philosophy speaking the TRUTH and being called mean. How can the truth be mean?? I just don’t understand. But when Ann sticks it to them the public smirks and thinks that “she got them”. There is liberal commentator outrage, no public outrage.
I would have loved Ann to ask the reason that her husband brought up Mary Cheney in the debate. But then you always think of the thing you should have said after the fact.

Edwards like all the weak minded libs can’t successfully debate the issues so they claim the right engages in personal attacks...
Chances are that the so-called man Edwards was the first to bring up his deceased son—and I suspect he did it in a campaign speech.
Mrs. Edwards loves her shyster hubbie and that’s fine. But he should repay every cent he collected when it was proven that epilepsy isn’t/wasn’t caused by something related to the medical care around a prenancy.

He knows he is not going to win. I think he is running to amass wealth in a new way for him. Do they not get to keep campaign contributions?

Ann let Ms Edwards filibuster too long, but otherwise did okay. There was no focus to the exchange.

It sort of gets attention, and allows The Lady Coulter to frame the debate. Consider the polite and refined Dr. Sowell who probably has many similar ideas. Almost no one who isn't an FR regular would even recognize his name, and even fewer are aware of the issues that interest him.

I'm sorry to say that Mrs. Edwards outclassed Ann Coulter.
The lack of outrage from the Liberals over Bill Maher's hope that terrorists would've killed Vice President Cheney when he was in Afghanistan proves you wrong. Edwards is elitist, Communist trash. His phony malpractice suits made it harder for rural people to get decent medical care, while lining his pockets with millions of dollars.
He needs Ann to hopefully bring a few viewers to his dismal, last place show (ratings posted on drudge yesterday.) She's a pretty big name in political babble, sold a few books, and probably got paid pretty handsomely for the hour on the show.
Meanwhile, what's she gonna do if Chrissy makes nice? Talk about boring. If he'd been nice and friendly, would the clip end up on You Tube? Would anyone be talking about it? Probably not. She NEEDS a fight. It's her whole schtick.
So, they whip up a nice little dustup for the rubes (viewers), Chrissy maybe gets a slightly better rating, Ann gets some money, the viewers are entertained. Everybody wins.
