Sao Paulo, Brazil (LifeNews.com) -- Brazilian model Fernanda Tavares isn't happy with her good friend, supermodel Giselle Bundchen, because her colleague made international headlines two weeks ago supporting abortion. Tavares said Giselle was "absurd" to defend abortion and explained the basics of pregnancy and abortion an interview.
Tavares' remarks are somewhat surprising because she is not known as a religious person and has come under fire herself for extramarital affair with Brazilian actor Murilo Rosa.
But Tavares told the Brazilian daily newspaper “Folha de Sao Paulo,” she was "disgusted" by her friend's statement supporting abortion.
“At one month the baby's heartbeat can be heard," she explained, knowing the facts of a pregnancy because she is pregnant herself from her relationship with Rosa.
“It's absurd for any woman, no matter how independent she is, to defend abortion,” Tavares said. “We're talking about another life."
Taveras told the newspaper she will marry Rosa in October after the birth of their baby.
Earlier this month, Bundchen, called the Catholic position on abortion and sexuality outdated because she says it was adopted at a time when "the women were virgins and the guys were virgins"
"Today no one is a virgin when they get married ... show me someone who's a virgin!" she demanded.
Asked about abortion, the supermodel replied that women should have the right to have one if they want, even in dubious circumstances.
"If she thinks she doesn't have the money or the emotional condition to raise a child, why should she give birth?"
Giselle's comments are important in Brazil, a nation where abortion advocates have been trying to legalize the practice for years, because so many young women look up to her. However, they differ significantly from comments other top models have made.
Supermodel and successful businesswoman Kathy Ireland and actor and model Jennifer O'Neill are among those who have been outspoken about their pro-life beliefs.

I’m glad that she was willing to stand up to Giselle. It’s good that she was willing to voice her support for the unborn, especially with Brazil considering the legalization of abortion.
