Ruby Ridge's Weaver offers support for New Hampshire tax-evading couple
The Idaho Statesman: The Haunting Fear that Somebody Somewhere Knows We're Full Of It ^ | 19 June 2007 | Philip Elliott - Associated Press

PLAINFIELD, N.H. — Randy Weaver, the symbol of everything the government hopes to avoid with convicted tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown, offered advice to the fugitives and warnings to federal agents at the Browns’ fortified home on Monday.

Weaver’s wife and son and a deputy U.S. marshal were killed during the infamous Ruby Ridge shootout with federal agents in Idaho in 1992. He visited the Browns’ hilltop home to raise the specter of the botched federal raid and lend his celebrity to the tax evaders’ cause.

“We said, ’This is it, we’re not going to take it any more’ … This is serious stuff. Bring it on,” Weaver said during a news conference on the Browns’ front porch. “I ain’t afraid of dying no more. I’m curious about the afterlife. And I’m an atheist.”

During the sometimes hostile news conference that had Weaver and Ed Brown shouting insults at reporters, the speakers and their supporters repeated their claims that income taxes are voluntary, and any tax on labor amounts to slavery.

“The bottom line is: Show us the law, we will pay what you ask,” said Ed Brown, who had a gun tucked in his waistband. “They can’t do it, folks.”

Randy is having a crisis of faith. He was at time the Feds murdered his wife and daughter - read Lon the murderer - a devote Christian.

Our current tax system is a socialist wet dream. The elite take from the producers and give to the leeches while they sit above the masses and gloat.

Hi durasell, re your:"Nobody likes paying taxes, but they are a necessity...

Are there any services provided to you by federal public employees that you really wanted and would prefer to buy from them rather than other sources?

In my own experience private/parochial schools have been more cost-effective than government schools. The Swiss model of national defense (all able-bodied folks trained and armed as a national militia) seems a lot more cost-effective than ours. And we may be overpaying for public roadway maintenance.

I doubt most of us need/request much of anything from federal public employees.

What few tasks we would want to hire them for can probably best be funded by our traditional National Tarrif/import tax.

Of course nobody wants to pay taxes, especially on pork barrel spending.
However, I’ve lived in NH for 25 years and this kook gives the LIVE FREE OR DIE state a bad name. His wife is a business owner. Therefore, they can take advantage of tax loopholes much better than the average worker getting a W2 form.
They knew the tax laws in the US and made millions off her dental practice. If they didn’t want to pay income taxes, they should move to some foreign country and see if they can make millions there practicing dentistry.

What part of majority don’t you understand? Essentially, 20% of Americans pay for the rest, the other 80% won’t voluntarily vote to pay their share. Each year more Americans join the rolls of those who get more from the government than they pay in (see Tax Foundation web site for data) More than 60% take in more benefits than they pay in taxes, and as of last year for the first time >50% effectively paid no net tax at all. When the majority don’t pay, how can elections change anything? They can’t.

Where did you get that 20/80 split? I’ve never seen it before.

Also note, those that pay the lion’s share are located in so-called “blue States.”

Parochial schools are subsidized by the church and in the midst of closing down at a health clip.

I require a lot from my local and fed employees. I want the water to be safe, the food to be safe, the prescription drugs to be safe. I want my mail delivered on time. I would also like continued enforcement of building codes, so that buildings don’t fall on me. Also, I’m not particularly keen on the idea of private police and fire departments.

Even here in NH the media portray him as a nutjob.
The conservative TALKRADIO shows out of Boston, on 96.9WTKK
also portray him as a nutjob.
I think the MSS will stay away from it unless the bullets start flying.

Just an FYI, I am not a Brown supporter per se, but they have been paying local taxes the whole time. With the amount of property they own and the “view tax” here in NH, it is probably quite a significant amount of money. Their problem isn’t *all* taxes, just the income tax I guess.

FWIW.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but the services you require (most are legitimate, I’ll give you that for sure) can be provided to you much better under a less authoritarian system.

For example, a company like Underwriters Laboratory (UL) could provide FDA like services for far, FAR less money, with significantly better results, than the FDA does currently. The Postal Service is a joke, we should open that to competition. Right now it’s illegal to compete with the Post Office, how does that make sense? Police and Fire Depts should remain public. There are a bunch of legitimate functions of government and police and fire are among them.

The real problem is that instead of following the Constitutional restraints on government, its size and scope has grown so vast that not only do we accept it as “normal”, not only have we forgotten that we built the freest, most prosperous nation on Earth without the DEA, FDA, DOE or a hosts of other government programs and departments, but we have gone so far to depend on them. It’s seen as a radical idea to want to “go back” to what worked for over 100 years.

Note that it wasn’t until the Department of Education came into existence that our nation’s level of education went down the crapper. It was the sweeping nationalization of education that caused it to fail (much like most other tenets of national socialism). The same model of logic can be applied to a host of other “problems” that we have domestically. The true cause of these problems usually stems from a growth of the size and scope of government. We already know the solution, it’s been proven to work for over 100 years: GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL INTENT OF THE CONSTITUTION.

As it should be. We’re not the same country we were a hundred years ago. There have been major population shifts and major changes in technology. The entire infrastructure of the nation has changed. This is no small thing — it’s what boosts our economy and keeps food in the supermarket.

Every advanced nation on the planet has a complex infrastructure. The countries that look like America 100 years ago are considered Third World.

You didn’t, and can’t, refute any of the points I made. That speaks for itself.

(When I say you can’t, I don’t mean you’re incapable of it, I mean the points can’t be refuted!)

:-)

is there news blackout?

There's always a news blackout on tax stories of any kind. The control freaks know that taxes piss people off. They don't want a bunch of Americans actually acting like they have the authority.

Hopefully. The best thing that could happen would be for everybody to ignore these two twits.

Yes. If you carefully examine the overall attitude in the media about taxes, you'll see that they report tax news like they're sunspots, or Acts of God:

Wow, gosh - taxes went up again today! Nothing we can do about it, so we'll all just have to live with it. - your friendly local news outlet

Heres your hero! oops he’s an athiest now. Last time he and his deceased were seing visions from God Almighty and trying to convert your statesmen.

One thing is still the same... hes trying to stir up the police and threatening violence. De Ja vue.

If he “has one with his name on it” this time is he still a victim?

If someones kid who worships him gets shot because of his threats of fighting to the death is it the officers fault?

You should be proud of your hero! (/snort) I bet he has a line of T-shirts selling at the front gate...grab you one.

I can't speak for what Weaver is doing now. He was not a hero to folks like me back then, he was a victim.

...and what gets a lot of folks like you with their panties all in a wad is that he was acquited. He was not guilty of those deaths...and then to punctuate that fact, the government settled with him over those same deaths.

What happened to he and his family back then was a travesty when it happened...and it is a travesty to this day, irrespective of what he may be involved with now.

Exactly how do you figure that the "vast majority of Americans don'y pay net taxes"?
Even those with incomes under $10k average an 8.33% tax rate when you consider income tax + social security + medicare + unemployment - EITC - food stamps, etc...

Income bracket Average income per tax return % of total federal tax burden Effective tax rate
<$10k $4242 0.42% 8.33%
$10k-20k $14958 1.60% 7.30%
$20k-30k $24872 3.80% 12.58%
$30k-40k $34876 5.80% 16.28%
$40k-50k $44580 6.50% 17.81%
$50k-75k $60787 16.70% 20.26%
$75k-100k $86302 14.70% 22.78%
$100k-200k $130357 23.0% 25.07%
>$200k $501290 27.5% 28.19%

Just because someone isn't paying high income taxes doesn't mean they aren't getting taxed elswhere. The income tax is highly progressive, but there are some highly regressive taxes out there as well...
