ajc.com (Atlanta Journal-Constitution) ^ | 2007-06-19

Posted on 06/19/2007 5:43:33 PM PDT by ovs.in.texas

Just in time for the second round of debate, Georgia Employers for Immigration Reform on Tuesday launched a first round of radio ads in defense of the immigration reform deal in Washington. We heard it on, of all places, the Neal Boortz program on WSB.

I'm looking for members of the "Georgia Employers for Immigration Reform"

Wayne Lord of Pilgrim's Pride is chairman of the group. He is based in Atlanta, according to a PP press release.

Do I sense a boycott of businesses who support amnesty happening?

“And what if the immigrant workers all left the country tomorrow? Many of these businesses would have to shut their doors — simple as that. And to make matters worse, millions of native-born Americans, who also work for these companies, would lose their jobs, too.

Well at least they aren't telling us we're all going to starve to death.....this time.

Horse pucky. Give them a “grace” peroid to hire and train legal workers to replace the deportees.

I heard on the radio today that the Texas Employers for Immigration Reform released poll results saying that a majority of people of all political persuations favor the current immigration bill. I trust their "poll" like I'd trust a PETA poll about killing animals.

That got me to wondering about this zombie of a bill. Zombies eat brains, don't they? Well, when this zombie is revived in the Senate won't it starve to death?

Unsurprisingly, Pilgrim’s Pride is a member of a similar group here in Texas.

That Texas business group ran the ad suggesting that we’ll all starve to death without illegals. I was seeing that one here in Michigan.

“Many people think the immigration bill is an effort by business owners to get cheap labor."

That is exactly what it is, and much more. It is an attempt by Democrats to import yet another government dependency class to vote for Democrats, and at a cost of over two TRILLION dollars to U.S. taxpayers. For every dollar these illegals pay in taxes, they take two dollars out of the system in education, hospitals, and other services. The employers get cheap labor and offload the real costs of these people onto the taxpayer.

I heard this propaganda on WSB during the Hannity show this afternoon. Like the legislation is is being run to support, the ad is hot, steaming, fly-covered horse manure.

Bland Farms may be involved in the Georgia group. Michael Lively (GM) was quoted in one of the articles I saw.

In 2001, the folks that grow Vidalia onions (Bland Farms) paid $62K in back pay to US workers in 2001 to settle complaints of worker discrimination. According to the Department of Justice site:

"Although Bland Farms claimed it could not find U.S. workers willing to take field jobs or work in its packing shed, OSC's investigation found that when U.S. citizens applied for work they were denied jobs or were only offered the less desirable jobs. Under existing immigration laws, employers are required to hire qualified U.S. workers over non-immigrant temporary visa workers. Some of the U.S. workers were represented by Georgia Legal Services Program, Farmworkers Division. " Here is the link http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/osc/press/bland.htm

Looks like I'll be doing without Vidalia onions for a while.

The usual (business) suspects are the restaurant industry, meat-packing, agriculture, and construction. A generic list is readily available, e.g., from the The Atlanta Business Chronicle . Apparently, MoHawk Industries (MHK) in North Georgia has also had some legal issues surrounding illegal aliens: From a Business Week article (in 2006):

"Filed in federal court, the suit alleges that Mohawk, sometimes with help from local hiring agencies, knowingly accepted false documents, recruited illegals at the U.S.-Mexico border, and rehired undocumented workers under different names." Source: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_13/b3977087.htm

I'll provide a list of these types of companies in GA tomorrow morning.

I plan to call Mohawk and Bland tomorrow to see what their position on the immigration bill is. I'll report back.

So don’t we still have about 4.5% unemployment? Can’t the people collecting only $200 per week take over these “jobs Americans won’t do”? We could feasibly have zero unemployment in this country. A win-win situation. All legal Americans able to work and no unemployment benefits having to be paid out.
