Reid Bryson, known as the father of scientific climatology, considers global warming a bunch of hooey.
The UW-Madison professor emeritus, who stands against the scientific consensus on this issue, is referred to as a global warming skeptic. But he is not skeptical that global warming exists, he is just doubtful that humans are the cause of it.
There is no question the earth has been warming. It is coming out of the "Little Ice Age," he said in an interview this week.
"However, there is no credible evidence that it is due to mankind and carbon dioxide. We've been coming out of a Little Ice Age for 300 years. We have not been making very much carbon dioxide for 300 years. It's been warming up for a long time," Bryson said.
The Little Ice Age was driven by volcanic activity. That settled down so it is getting warmer, he said.
Humans are polluting the air and adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, but the effect is tiny, Bryson said.
"It's like there is an elephant charging in and you worry about the fact that there is a fly sitting on its head. It's just a total misplacement of emphasis," he said. "It really isn't science because there's no really good scientific evidence."
Just because almost all of the scientific community believes in man-made global warming proves absolutely nothing, Bryson said. "Consensus doesn't prove anything, in science or anywhere else, except in democracy, maybe."
Bryson, 87, was the founding chairman of the department of meteorology at UW-Madison and of the Institute for Environmental Studies, now known as the Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.

Professor Bryson gets it.
“There is a lot of money to be made in this,” he added. “If you want to be an eminent scientist you have to have a lot of grad students and a lot of grants. You can’t get grants unless you say, ‘Oh global warming, yes, yes, carbon dioxide.’”
It’s really that simple...
Bryson won’t be invited to any Hollywood parties.
“Its really that simple...”
Yep.
By the way, our local meteoroligist stepped to the plate, too. His words: "You're being fed a lot of baloney on global warming. The earth and its' atmosphere is in constant change."
"It's HOOEY, I say!"
Well stated. But he's such a skeptic. How can we take him series-ly when smarter people - like Owl Gore - disagree?
While it appears in quotes in the headline, no where is it directly attributed to the scientist in the article.
I REALLY admire this man’s work. As the father of modern meteorlogy, the scientic community can’t ignore him as a crackpot.
I LOVE THIS MAN!
BUMP
Heresy, certainly.
My daughter is a meteorologist. She has zero patience for people claiming to be erudite who preach the evil that men do causing global warming. She, too, tells the masses that we are still climbing out of the little ice age.
They don't always connect all the dots, but lately some of the educational type TV programs have taken to explaining existing knowledge of the sun and it's affect on virtually every aspect of our existence. Apparently, the sun affects the weather on Pluto. There is nothing, N-O-T-H-I-N-G, anyone, A-N-Y-O-N-E, even a hot air wind bag like al gore can do to affect the weather on this tiny little capsule where we live on the sun's porch.
They (with a capital "T") tell us we are all going to vaporize in 2050, sorry, now they moved it out to 2100. I guess it must be that we will have a temperate pattern until December 31, the Year of Our Lord 2099, and the thermometer will jump 20 or 100 degrees on January 1, the Year of Our Lord 2100. We have measured that the earth has warmed on the average of .6 degrees in the last half century. That's point six degrees. I really can't notice such a rise.
We have everything you can ever ask in global warming theories, everything, that is, but rising temperatures.
well the professor can kiss his chances of ever bein invited to dine with algorical and tipper anytime soon thats for sure. what a fun evening he missed out on to. plus hollywood galas with hollywood gaylas are pretty much not gonna happen for him either. i guessin it don’t make him no never mind.
Correct -in 1492, the scientific consensus was that the world was flat.
In the mid 1600's Galileo was excommunicated for claiming the earth revolved around the sun..
I don't think so. He "was" censured, arrested, and kept under house arrest for the rest of his life, but AFAIK, he died in full communion with the Catholic Church.
“Hooey” is the gas coming from the warming globalists.
DEFINITELY an old timey expression. My dad uses it. I think I'll start using it
Some sources say hooey means nonsense, others say it means bullshit
