Interesting question for you all. A straight up strict Border Enforcement bill went to the US Senate in 2006. The Democrat filibustered it.

So since your dream bill doesn’t have the votes to pass. Are any of you willing to compromise on anything to get what you want on the border?

Cause this has been an odd debate. For the last few years we heard a daily deluge of “DC got to do something about the Border or we are doomed”. So DC started doing some things and NOW “If DC does this we are doomed.”

So, what are any of you willing to compromise on to get some things done on this issue?

You don’t have the votes to pass only 100% of what you want into law. Listening to you, you will not accept anything less then 100% of what you want. At what point are you all going to realize that is a mutually exclusive position? You can have one or the other, you cannot have both.

So, without all the usual histrionics, can some explain to me what you all want? Cause basically you are demanding action and refusing any action less then perfection which you don’t have the votes in DC to get.

Basically the end result is you all are maintaining the status quo. Which, as anyone who has read this board for the last few years, is suppose to be "destroying the country".

Frankly this whole debate has been rather surreal to watch. The only people who have won anything are the illegals. Cause now at least 2 more years will pass before this issue gets looked at again. This bill will die and no one in Congress is going to bring it up in an election year. Like every other serious topic, Congress will do everything it can to ignore this until after the elections now.

First of all...

the “if we don’t pass this (pos) now- then we are stuck with status quo, or worse” doesn’t help validate this bill.

Boogey man politics on THIS issue will not work.

Second— the reason the Dems keep pushing this back to the Repubs is because- THEY CANNOT afford to pass this bill either.

reason?

THEIR voters are just as incensed about this issue as we are.

They were able to gain their seats in the Senate and House because the guys who ran claimed they were tough on immigration....they do NOT want to go back home having voted for this bill.

Third..

Things are much different now than in 2006.

MANY— MANY more folks are better research, better educated, and more incensed over this issue than in 2006. Not to mention- that ALL confidence has been lost in the DC folks since they have REFUSED to build the dang fence they voted on in 2006.

the problem is that the money to build the fence was allocated to Cherkoff and gang- and THEY are refusing to do it because they are waiting for another bill to negate the fence and help Bush with his SPP plan...

What is your indication that Senators Cornyn and Kaye Bailey are going wobbly?

I did not think I needed to contact them because I thought they were safe.

Was I wrong? Is the sky blue? (well, not here, we’re into heavy rain and thunderstorms)

None of us are sure what promises got made this past week. I think most of us have sense enough to know some promises were made. Otherwise, the bill would finally have been declared dead.

Instead, it has miraculously been resurrected. Why? A bit of common sense would tell us that some Senators must be getting something out of it.

We won't know for sure until the next round of floor speeches, MSM interviews and voting. If the bill does pass, that means several of the R's had to change their votes. It will be interesting to see which senators voted No last time and changed to Yes this time.

Normally I would agree with you.

Basically anything we want in Congress requires compromise, budgets, etc. most everything. However, we do have major majorities in both sides of the equation with huge numbers of pubbies and dems that support us and are not willing to compromise the security and safety of the country's borders.. This was documented with the Rasmussen poll last week.

Border security is the key issue with 65% of the dems demanding it and much higher for us. I think everyone is baffled why the congress and ADM. are going against the majority will of the people on both sides of the aisle on this one. Few have any explanations that make sense.

I guess the thinking is to kill the bill and hope/gamble the critters come to their senses later on with possibly some candidate in 08 leading the way maybe making border security prime on their platform.

It’s 95 degrees here right now, and the humidity is as high (or so it seems!).

Normally, I don’t agree with you. However, because Rodguy911 disagrees with you on this issue I’m going to thoughtfully reconsider the validity of your position.

The General has to much class , He would not take the bait.
For myself I am tired of these guys not letting the democrat traitors have it with all barrels, they can do it in a positive way but they just choose to let it pass . You just wonder who the hell is on our side ,seems Bush is wipped and is going thru the motions but the democrats have announced that everything is a failure and lost and NO ONE ANSWERS !!!I take it Back ,Joe Lieberman has been firing but he is being SAVAGED in the local media here in Connecticut for saying we should make strategic strikes into Iran to take out the camps that are training and equipping terrorists coming into Iraq. The Press has been apoplectic since he said that ,calling him a lunatic and of all things a neocon! We have reached the point that Rush on his show warned about some time back ,the ct.post in their sunday editorial said because of all the lies put forth about going to war in Iraq we can no longer trust what are leaders are telling us ,so when someone says that we must take action to prevent Americans from getting killed by Iran this is a lie and the Lunatic Lieberman must be nuts ,so now we have are hands tied and no one will have the courage to fight back because of the risk of being savaged in the press
