Washington, D.C. The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.
Anti-immmigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

Yea, we’ve got the Rats coming to town here in Denver for their convention next year—that’s a frickin’ tragedy!

I believe the Congressman is making major headway by sticking to his guns, and talking common sense, every chance that he gets.
This may only be a small victory; but any victory right now, for our side, is tremendously significant. The tide may really be starting to turn; but we have a long, long way to go.

Tancredo and his staffers hooted and cheered from his office across the street from the Capitol immediately after the vote. So are we!

but fear it will backfire if a tragedy in these places occurs and services are withheld. ummmm, that would be the whole point?

If the whole country becomes a “sanctuary” by means of an immigration bill then this one wouldn’t help much because it applies to cities only.

Yep. Hopefully, even if this litterbox legislation even gets to the House, it will have more poison pills in it than a pharmacy.
But let’s hope it doesn’t even get that far. Strangle this thing.

AMAZING what happens when a man sticks to his guns long enough.
You’d think more of us would have remebered Wm. Wilberforce.

I think the main blessing from this is that it shows deep fissures between the House and the Senate on the illegal immigration issue.
That's a good thing, considering how things are going in the Senate right now.

Woo Hoo! Of course, this is probably DOA in the Senate, but still a win. A bit of good news in a few weeks of all out battle with the amnesty/lobbyist/DEMGOP cabal.

Holy crap. That’s awesome. It’s one piece of “interior enforcement” that you DIDN’T hear talked about in the Senate’s consideration of shamnesty. I would love, oh how I would love, to see this pass the Senate (yes, I know it won’t) and watch President Bush squirm.
This, BTW, mayors and gubnahs, is why taking Federal money is a BAD THING. Because Uncle Sugar NEVER gives you jack without strings attached. And you might not like it when those strings get pulled!
