A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 200,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Not too bad. Bored out of my skull today. I’m actually looking forward to Monday- if for no other reason than the trip to the gym before work. Working and saving, working and saving...
How’s you?

Late Weekend Scottish Fold Poetry
Teffy
At first glance, I may appear a vulnerable little Muffin
With a Little Pretty One who loves to hug my Stuffings
As I seem to squeeze out from her slender Arms and tiny Fingers
I used to resist at first, but now I relax and tend to Linger
Content with the way my Arms and Legs sway high above the Floor
As we travel down soft carpeted Halls and always open Doors
Through the Kitchen, Big Rooms and up the steps Beyond
To My Pretty Ones' Special Places of which I'm very fond
Full of inviting dainty Things and places to Nap and Hide
That seem to pique my Curiosity, Instinct and Pride
Which My Pretty Ones haven't taken the time to look for deep Inside
Beneath all my soft silky Fur and these Ears that flatly fold
Is the heart of a Courageous Warrior, stout and Bold
Ready to confront anything that appears strange or is Unknown
With many subtle talents that occasionally need to be honed
Instinctively, just like my Ears that fold flat instead of Back
A surprising, age old quirk for protection from Attack
Things that are Second Nature and quite easy to keep in check
To make sure My Pretty Ones give the spot between my Ears a peck

More Poetry
Rivalries
My brother, Teffy and I are Kittens, but something is oddly curious
A small but noticeable anomaly, but not enough to make me furious
While my Ears stand up straight up and can turn to funnel Sound
Teffy's ears seem limp, easily folded and appear to be Bound
To the sides of my brother's handsome face, just beyond his eyes
I have pondered this situation many times, always beginning with "Why
should my brother look so similar why wearing such an odd disguise?"
We receive the same number of Hugs and Rubs, with numbers to the Skies
Not to mention the Little Pretty One's trips Up and Down the Stairs
With my tail tucked up and legs swaying away without an Earthly care
Perhaps, I should roam around and look for Mother and the answer that I seek?
On the Window Sill above The Big Long Chair is always worth a peek!
Suddenly the answer to my dilemma is revealed. It's been there all the time
I'm surprised that I've never noticed before, the reason to this rhyme
As Mother's Ears turn to the sound of my approach, looking just like mine!

Here's Some More
Siberian Rhapsody
Why is Our Pretty One holding up just one tiny little fish
Just to make all of us look up without granting our wish?
Since we are such a cute sextet of purry furry elves
We would each like a tiny glistening delicious fish for ourselves!
To relish and savor slowly and for once, not share
Such succulent and delectable selections of aquatic fare
Since we are all sitting so quietly and well behaved
Except for Bossa Nova, who is awaiting an invitation engraved
To snatch the tiny fish from Our Pretty One's slender digits
While Baracarola watches intently and resists the urge to fidget
Don't be fooled by sweet Boogie Woogie, who seems like such a dear
Or Bravura, crouched and ready should the Treasure happen to drift near
It isn't always easy to continue to be the Family Dreamer
When Burleska is easily our most clever and seductive schemer
It's our Heritage and Nature to be Hunters of great Guile and Stealth
Surrender is in the air, so we each have our own share of Wealth!

The Sun, as common, went abroad,
The flowers, accustomed, blew,
As if no soul the solstice passed
That maketh all things new.
