Happy Birthday, US Army

Posted on 06/14/2007 1:00:17 AM PDT by Snickersnee

On this day in 1775, the Second Continental Congress voted to "adopt" the colonial troops then beseiging Boston as the Army of the United Colonies, and also voted in George Washington as its Commanding General. He left immediately for Cambridge to form what would become the US Army after the Declaration of Independence was accepted.

Happy Birthday to an old friend of 11 years of good, great and terrible times. The U.S. Army made me what I am now and I will always appreciate the Army for that.

I would not have amounted to much without the Army...no great retirement, no nice home and family, no education, no fantastic post-military career- most importantly, I would have missed the opportunity to serve with men of great honor...happy birthday, Army...

I really miss the army. Best wishes to all those in harm's way, serving their country. You are in my prayers. May God return you home safely.

You damned rebels they technically Her Majesties troops !

Not really Tex, I was only joshing.
My Grandad’s brother Uncle Les served side by side with the Yanks while in the 8th Army in Sicily. He told me they took a pasting during the advance on Rome. Some of them he got talking to were only 17 or 18 years old from places like Kansas or North Dakota, then a couple of days later he would see them being buried, he didnt tell us any of this until at least 30 years later. You are one of those 17 year old lads, you risked spilling your blood to keep thw world safe.

All the best have a great July 4th.

"...most importantly, I would have missed the opportunity to serve with men of great honor..."

Indeed. That opportunity will remain my most valuable possession until the day I die, and the one that nobody can ever take away.
