Does Lindsey Graham truly believe that his highest calling as a senator is to work with the likes of Ted Kennedy? Apparently so, judging by the South Carolinian's statement on this morning's "Today." Meredith Vieira interviewed Graham, a staunch supporter of the president's immigration plan, during the show's first half-hour.
TODAY CO-HOST MEREDITH VIEIRA: When you went home recently you were at a GOP meeting and you got booed over immigration. There are a lot of people in a lot of states -- conservatives -- who think this bill is bad and they see this as a litmus test.Graham's statement is a perfect illustration of why so few senators ever get elected president. They become infatuated with process, with working with "my friend, the distinguished senator from the great state of" blah, blah, blah. Of course there are times when compromise is required. But, above all, senators are sent to Washington not to work with the other side but to fight for their principles. This is not a case of working with Ted Kennedy to do a "hard" thing -- it's working with him to do a bad thing.
SEN. LINDSEY GRAHAM [R-S.C.]: Well here's what I believe. This is a bill that's a million per cent better than the current system. I mentioned working with Ted Kennedy and I got booed. The lady in your piece earlier said no compromise. I'm a Republican conservative who believes my country is at risk by not solving immigration. I'm a member of the United States Senate who believes it's my job to work with Democrats to do hard things. This is no longer about immigration. Can your Congress, can your Senate, come together to do things that one party can't do itself? I think the answer is yes.
Just so neither sex would be accursed, just neuter him and call him an “It”.
I’ve never seen anyone so stuck on stupid as he and his party’s leader.
Let’s repeal the 17th Amendment. Then the people can wash their hands of the Senate altogether.
So right now, whose career is bigger roadkill?
(a) Michael Nifong
(b) Lindsey Graham

Well, according to a former Daschle aide, Graham was quick to work with Daschle and the minority on a number of issues. After one such meeting, Graham emerged from Daschle's office, walked to the door, turned around, and proclaimed loudly for the Daschle's entire staff to hear: "Republican by day, Democrat by night."
“Bush is so OVER.”
You are correct. Maybe now he will sign the stem cell bill and pull our troops out of Iraq.

I cannot wait to she this pansy UN-ELECTED by the good people of his state.
His FBI file must be REALLY something!! DEFEAT GRAHAM next election!
I cannot wait to see this pansy UN-ELECTED by the good people of his state.
I believe he's already started treatment, it's obvious he no longer has any balls.
Amen... I NEVER hear Democrats say anything nice about Republicans!!!
“You are correct. Maybe now he will sign the stem cell bill and pull our troops out of Iraq.”
That is sarcasm....
If one were to substitute the word “socialist” for “Democrat” would the Senator still stand behind his remarks? I see no difference.
Hey Rather, you want to see something that’s really “Tarted Up”? Look at the two houses of Congress!
Let's make sure about Fred and go to work for him...
This immigration bill is 1,000,l00% better than what we have now?
Doing nothing on passed legislation is what we are doing now.
All this bill does is invite all the dogs in town to come crap in our yard because we need the fertilizer, and since we can't possibly get rid of all the dogs, anyone who doesn't like the smell or the shoe residue just STFU.
Or is it, the flaming boy is going down.
Or is it, the flaming boy goes down.
Whatever, he is no longer a closet liberal, he came out of the closet to express his affection for Uncle Teddy.
Earth to Lindsey, conservatives do not take kindly to those who have hidden their true selves in the closet.
Look for Bush to try another pea-under-the-shell. Maybe something like putting National Guard on the border — again.
lol
Last session, he made a big ta-do about putting NG on the border. Of course, he failed to say they would be unarmed, not allowed to actually patrol, and would be mostly relegated to washing vehicles and doing paperwork during their two-week assignments.
During that entire program, the 6,000 was reached and maintained for only a few weeks. It took months to actually build up to the 6,000, because most of their time was in training; then the program ended.
It was a hoodwinking.
