Does Lindsey Graham truly believe that his highest calling as a senator is to work with the likes of Ted Kennedy? Apparently so, judging by the South Carolinian's statement on this morning's "Today." Meredith Vieira interviewed Graham, a staunch supporter of the president's immigration plan, during the show's first half-hour.
TODAY CO-HOST MEREDITH VIEIRA: When you went home recently you were at a GOP meeting and you got booed over immigration. There are a lot of people in a lot of states -- conservatives -- who think this bill is bad and they see this as a litmus test.Graham's statement is a perfect illustration of why so few senators ever get elected president. They become infatuated with process, with working with "my friend, the distinguished senator from the great state of" blah, blah, blah. Of course there are times when compromise is required. But, above all, senators are sent to Washington not to work with the other side but to fight for their principles. This is not a case of working with Ted Kennedy to do a "hard" thing -- it's working with him to do a bad thing.
SEN. LINDSEY GRAHAM [R-S.C.]: Well here's what I believe. This is a bill that's a million per cent better than the current system. I mentioned working with Ted Kennedy and I got booed. The lady in your piece earlier said no compromise. I'm a Republican conservative who believes my country is at risk by not solving immigration. I'm a member of the United States Senate who believes it's my job to work with Democrats to do hard things. This is no longer about immigration. Can your Congress, can your Senate, come together to do things that one party can't do itself? I think the answer is yes.

Navvet: Only if you consider reclassifying all “illegal’s” as “legals” as doing something about illegal immigration. This is like solving the problem of bank robbery by reclassifying the Robbery as a withdrawal.

Every time I drive near my polling place I get excited at the thought of the day I can vote against him gets more and more close every day. I’ve had the feeling before but it usually involves Democrats who spoil it for me by retiring.

There is absolutely no necessity to tie “legalization” or “documentation” of 12-20 million aliens to any border security enforcement bill. There is absolutely no necessity to tie a secure social security account identification document to any border security enforcement bill.
Linseed Graham: Quit lying. We want you to enforce the laws that are already a part of immigration code. We want the 10,000 BP agents signed into LAW in 2004; we want the 700 miles of secure fencing signed into LAW in 2006.
We don’t want any more empty promises; we don’t want your brainfart of a “Grand Bargain”; we don’t want any more “compassionate” compromises of American sovereignty; we want you to ENFORCE the LAW; we want you to do what you’ve already committed in word to do.
Otherwise, SHUT UP, you BIGOT.

This is not the same man who served in the House back in the 1990’s. Washington has changed him.
He needs sent home.
If a million percent more complicated and a million percent more unenforceable and a million percent more expensive makes it a million percent better, then I agree with Senator Graham.
The good people of SC need to run McCain Junior out of office.
The modern day “Benedict Arnold” is alive and well in the State of South Carolina. Let’s hope a true conservative takes him on in his next primary.
