An Ohio sheriff who billed the federal government for the cost of jailing criminal aliens and asked Mexico to reimburse him in his fight against Mexican-based drug rings says the Senate's failure to pass an immigration-reform bill is reason enough for states to target illegal aliens themselves.
"It seems that maybe the 'silent majority' was heard after all by federal legislators," said Richard K. Jones, the sheriff of Butler County, Ohio. "No one I spoke with liked the feds' idea of watered-down immigration reform."
Sheriff Jones, who called on state officials last week to issue a "resolution of nonsupport" for the federal reform proposal, said the bill's demise means that Ohio -- and other states -- should enact legislation to deal with what he called a "continuing illegal-immigration crisis."
"Let's create stricter state laws to go after employers who hire persons who are in this state illegally," he said. "Also, let's make English the official language of the state. Those who live in Ohio should know our language. Taxpayers should not have to pay for interpreters in schools, and U.S. citizens living here shouldn't have to learn another language."
Sheriff Jones, along with state Rep. Courtney Combs, will call on House Speaker Jon Husted and Senate President Bill Harris to help enact legislation aimed at addressing illegal-immigration issues.
The sheriff said certain aspects of the immigration crisis cannot be dealt with at the state level -- such as sealing and securing the borders and eliminating amnesty for those present illegally -- but he said states can help themselves in seeking to lessen the problem.

One has to have a spine in order to get whiplash......
That’s a GREAT idea! I think I will do that, unsolicited by the RNC...just because I want to keep reminding them not to take those “nasty grassroots conservatives” for granted.
Hopefully they will follow through on what they say.
He seems to think everything would have been ok, if McCain/Kennedy had passed.
Said it before, the answer to the illegal invaders will come from the bottom up.
Cheers!
America's finest! BUMP!
Wow, what a GREAT idea! This suggestion needs to be spread around through email. After all, anyone who goes to the trouble to write out a check, void and mail it to the RNC will definitely show up at the polls to vote. (that last point should probably be added in a little sticky note).
If true, the Republican Party is flat out treasonous because they will never benefit at election time and will be leading the party into extinction.
It isn’t the party that is being led into extinction. It’s this country.
and staple the note to the check with at least four staples!
Now thats a guy I could vote for.”
AMEN.
Since there have been Federal laws on the books for years regarding hiring illegal intruders, and the Feds won’t do a thing about enforcing the laws, then having each state set up their own laws may be the only answer.
Failing that, I see counties and villages and cities getting on the ball and setting rules they can enforce.
The illegal intruders better be careful what they strive for. In watering down the Federal enforcement of laws that wre weak to begin with, then there is the distinct possibility that local laws could be very strict, and have long prison terms attached to them. The good side of that could be that without conjugal visits, we could see a drop in the number of births emmitting from the illegal intruders, also.
This guy sounds like he could use some help from Sheriff Arpaio (sp) in Arizona.
We need MANY more!!
