...we now have CONFIRMATION (that he will be on the show that night) from www.NBC.com:
Tuesday, June 12, 2007Fred Thompson
I wonder what his costars (not that it really matters) think of him.
BOTH Dick Wolfe and Sam Waterston have spoken highly of Fred- Wolfe even encouraged him to run:)
I doubt ANY news conference would generate the large (and diverse) audience of friendly and receptive voters that the Tonight Show would. As far as outreach goes, and subsequent YouTube excerpts, I think he will appeal to the PEOPLE rather than the media, don't you?
That would be the most efficient approach, IMO.
Excellent point.
What they wouldn't trade for Fred's recognition and genuine conservative appeal.
Who but Fred in the top tier makes it COOL to be conservative?
LOL, Carson was the best ever.
“I think he will appeal to the PEOPLE rather than the media, don’t you?”
Yes I do. I’m sure the Tonight Show would give him a great amount of coverage, and just remembered that it is a live audience. Had forgotten that. Haven’t watched in ages.
I am beginning to experience serious rumblings of change within myself on the "win in 2008" thing.
The Republican party's "media annointed lemons" (I think that's how one FReeper put it a few weeks ago) seem bent on delivering low-sodium liberalism when it comes to advocating government "solutions" to social and economic -- i.e., freedom, issues. The only thing that makes them different is that they want less of it. They don't see that "it" perpetuates more problems, not fewer. And they don't look like Republicans to me, so I have no enthusiasm in voting for them.
If Republicans win with this kind of low-sodium liberalism, we are corrupting our own freedom. That's not winning, that's strangling Republicanism. I'm getting to be (didn't used to be) like another poster or two I read around here. Cripes, let the Democrats have it. Let them OWN that.
They'll rightly get the blame when things screw up, and more important, Republicans will have an identity that contrasts with Democrats when they inevitably come in to clean up.
Any philosophical Democrat/Republican divide lacks that contrast today. Today, Republicanism seems prefer blending in with Liberalism, only on the angle that the Republican way is leaner -- the Republican mind-set in Romney, McCain, Giuliani (and Gingrich with the global warming horse manure) are like dark chocolate democrats where milk chocolate democrats rule.
Or something like that!
That’s why I said that in order for Fred to win he has define his Presidency.
I can guarantee you this. If Hildebeast is elected President, we are going to have European Socialist in the White House until the mullahs blow us up.
GOP does not equal conservative.
Selling the GOP as the “Party of Conservatism” has obviously been a very good marketing schtick, but that’s all it is: a marketing schtick. The reality is that the GOP is just slightly less enamored with socialism than it’s counterpart.
Yes, he does. Unless he wants to concede earning my vote. As it stands, I support Hunter. I shall only trade that vote if I believe Thompson is unlike Bush, McCain, Kyl...He must be closer to Reagan, DeMint, or Sessions. Otherwise I will not care if he's more 'electable' then Hunter. I'm voting conservatism no matter what, no matter the odds. I'm through with 'compassionate conservatism' and its near cousin liberalism.
Nor do I intend to repeat the mistakes we made in the past. Excusing everything Bush said or did by rationalizing he really meant to do or say differently. That it was all strategic. What a laugh that was. If thompson says something that hits our conservative ears as "off", I want him to address it immediately. If there are questions about his record, I think they should be explored. i think the main contributors to his campaign should be outed by name and examined. And I think he should, in part, have to defend himself rather then relying on conservatives to do it for him.
Dont get me wrong, I'm willing to take fire to protect a conservative. But that conservative should not be dependent on me to take on the liberals themself.
Bush burned many of us. We now must adopt Reagan's slogan and be willing to Trust but also to Verify. We can't afford a second mistake.

Fred don’t need no steenking excuse for his membership on the Council.
The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is a think tank which studies, debates and makes recommendations on foreign policy. No more. No less. It has liberal, moderate and conservative members. If it were all liberals or all conservatives, there wouldn’t be much to debate about.
A few of Fred’s conservative colleagues in CFR are William F. Buckley, John Bolton, Ken Blackwell and Gen. Alexander Haig. These gentlemen are hardly what any sane person would consider “one-world globalists.”
So leave the conspiracy theories to those great minds that can’t understand that super-heating metal causes it to bend and collapse, taking tall buildings like the World Trade Center down with it.
When you see CFR articles or papers which advocate less soverignty, you can be assured that they’re from the liberal elements of the organization.
If all the CFR conservatives renounced their membership and quit CFR today, it would be a bad thing, because there would be no more debates, and CFR would adopt lock, stock and barrel a liberal, socialist one-world view.
The conservatives are needed in the CFR so they can keep an eye on the libs and keep them occupied, lest the Leftistas use the organization unimpeded to more effectively promote world socialism.

:o)
No, IMHO, I see Fred Thompson getting better traction by teasing people longer about maybe announcing here or maybe announcing there. I hope that I’m wrong about this because I wanted him to officially announce his Presidential run months ago! I’m still hoping for the eventual Presidential ticket of either Fred Thompson/Duncan Hunter or Duncan Hunter/Fred Thompson among many other decent Presidential ticket possibilities.
Why don’t you attack anyone else? Do you fear Fred Thompson?
He is a threat to your buddy flip floppin’ buddy Romney isn’t he?
“Fred Thompson to be on the “TONIGHT SHOW” on June 12 [Will he, or won’t he, announce then?]”
Maybe.
LOL!!
Presidential hopefuls need to use a more legitimate jumping off point than a liberal late night comedy show, it’s disrespectful and belittling to anyone considering a Presidential run.
Hey, you!
I know Fred won’t be back on L & O next year.
I have been wondering when his contract with that show was up, though.
Did his contract expire this year?
If so, that was very convenient for us.
