It's Not Over [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
A Senate aide cautions:
First, yes, the victory yesterday - a product of tireless efforts by a handful of conservative Senators and staff - is a nice pause in this debacle. But I am afraid that is all it may be... the White House is still 100% committed to getting this bill passed. Harry Reid is looking to actually accomplish SOMETHING for crying out loud... and there is no tiring by ... the entire "deal-making" team. The White House has a full plan of attack. They are ready to start plucking votes one-by-one. Conservatives should note precisely which Senators were with us on defeating cloture and compare that to how Senators may change if the bill comes back... in other words, we should make sure we know which Senators are bought-off if the White House does what we believe they will. The sad reality is that people are putting far too much stock in the votes against cloture for some of the deal-makers. Some felt they had to vote that way in order to be "fair" to the caucus. However, those guys were ready to vote the other way if they had felt they could get away with it. Seriously, don't make too much of their votes... there were very specific reasons why they did it - and it had to do with the tough stances of a few conservative senators...

Right on target.
Did your friends leave you behind, or what?
You are right we won, and we will continue to win against GW and his globalist agenda. We will because we will keep the pressure up on congress. I will be calling them today.
What Victory? It’s only HALF-TIME!!!
I have no problem either with impeachment anymore.
As a long-time suburbanite, I long for the good old days when we all did our own yard-work. Saturday morning used to be a community event. I remember going out at 9:55 in the morning and seeing all the men with their lawn mowers, checking their watches. At 10:00 AM, it was "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!"
The condition of your property reflected your own labor and commitment to the work. Some people had showplaces that they could really be proud of. I was always more on the kid-friendly, but neat side of the scale. Nowadays, every house but mine is manicured and perfect, but I am the only one still doing it myself.
And last weekend, the landscaping crew on my neighbor's yard started in at 6:45 on Sunday morning. The social compact has been well and truly shattered.
LOL!
LOL.
“You are right we won, and we will continue to win against GW and his globalist agenda. We will because we will keep the pressure up on congress. I will be calling them today.”
We can NOT afford to be fooled by people like him, people who want us to shut up and become complacent. That’s HIS agenda and it always has been!!
We’ve come a long way, we’re doing a great job, but we can’t afford to drop the ball now.
I applaud each and every one of you for your efforts!!
MARCH TO TAKE BACK AMERICA
JUNE 14, 15, AND 16TH

Folks read that Dream Act that Durbin is sponsoring.
Essentially ANY (and I do mean ANY) minor, born OR NOT BORN IN THE USA, will be able to claim automatic citizenship just because they attend public school.
IT is PURE UNADULTERATED OPEN BORDER NO RESTRICTION IMMIGRATION.
ALL any parents need to do is enroll their illegal child into a public school and it becomes an “anchor baby.” (something eliminated in the 1996 immigration reform act)
BEWARE DURBIN WANTS OPEN BORDERS FOR ILLEGALS.
Why would any politician dare to address immigration ever again?? It will be shelved just like SSI.
Pray for W and Our Troops
>> So QUIT with the perpetual screaming and bitching. It just makes you all look like petulant children.
Pot. Kettle. Black!
Dude... take a deep breath, relax, get over it. The “know nothings” as you call them are not a fringe... they are seventy percent of the American electorate. (I used the word “electorate” for a reason.)
For the most part, we are NOT bigots. We are just fair-minded people, and rewarding lawbreakers sticks in our craw.
By the way... thank you for your service to our country. Seriously.
now they might try and pass it piece by piece.
IE The Anchor Baby “Dream Act” to fund anchor baby serial immigration via the public schools.
(aka citizens kicked out of college for illegal aliens act)
It's getting too close to the next elections for it to be brought up again. Don't look for this one to come back until at least 2009...if ever. BTW, President Romney will VETO any shamnesty bill.
My guess is, the democrats would oppose a bill for a guest worker program. And my guess is that’s the driving factor for the business interest-republicans. That’s the grand bargain — amnesty for illegals in exchange for a guest worker program.
When the guest worker program was sunsetted in 5 years, there was no reason for republicans to go along anymore.
We already have the border fence, and increase in BP agents, and an entry-exit computer tracking system on the books. We already have laws to punish companies who hire illegals, and the ability to deport illegals. We have a law already increasing the number of detention facilities (not that we should need it, we already had laws allowing us to build whatever detention facilities were needed to hold people).
W really need an ID program. but that has opposition on both the left and the right, for different reasons.
Kill this bill, put a stake through its heart, and urinate on its ashes. I hope it’s dead, but I wouldn’t count on it.
No, the immigratin bill is dead until after the 2008 election. Too many voters-both Republican and Democrat (if you don’t believe me check out Democratic Underground)- oppose this bill.
Most likely, the pols will try again after the elections. Even if the Senate had voted on this bill, I am not certain that the Houe would have passed it. They always have re-election worries. This was a bad bill, and I am glad it died.
After all, Harry Reid pointed out yesterday that when cloture failed the first time, his phone wasn’t ringing off the hook to “get the bill passed”. Americans didn’t really CARE THAT MUCH about this issue. They might in the abstract say they don’t want to be mean to illegals, but they don’t really care. The pressure is all from the anti-illegal, pro-borders crowd.
None of the senators is going to be deluged with calls and letters chastising them for DROPPING this bill. And if we keep up OUR side, by writing and congratulating all those who voted correctly on the cloture, and once a week or so writing to those who didn’t urging them to drop this bill and put a real bill in place, it should discourage their notion that we will go away.
