It's Not Over [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
A Senate aide cautions:
First, yes, the victory yesterday - a product of tireless efforts by a handful of conservative Senators and staff - is a nice pause in this debacle. But I am afraid that is all it may be... the White House is still 100% committed to getting this bill passed. Harry Reid is looking to actually accomplish SOMETHING for crying out loud... and there is no tiring by ... the entire "deal-making" team. The White House has a full plan of attack. They are ready to start plucking votes one-by-one. Conservatives should note precisely which Senators were with us on defeating cloture and compare that to how Senators may change if the bill comes back... in other words, we should make sure we know which Senators are bought-off if the White House does what we believe they will. The sad reality is that people are putting far too much stock in the votes against cloture for some of the deal-makers. Some felt they had to vote that way in order to be "fair" to the caucus. However, those guys were ready to vote the other way if they had felt they could get away with it. Seriously, don't make too much of their votes... there were very specific reasons why they did it - and it had to do with the tough stances of a few conservative senators...

IMO, he is becoming an enemy of the Republic.
What is more likely: El Presidente becoming AWARE and then doing the right thing on the border?
or his Impeachment by Democrats (in the absence of his previous base)?
I agree. Impeach his butt.
If President Bush continues down this road, the coalition of people who will oppose him is already organized. There will be no delay as people who support him on the War on Terror decide whether or not to come out against him on amnesty.
He spent that goodwill, and got nothing for it. But just because he got nothing for it does not mean it was not spent. If he so much as breathes a word about amnesty between now and January 2009, the base will be all over him, and it won't be pretty.
We have to be ready to pluck them out one by one.
Remember this about politicians. Their only real loyalty is to themselves and their getting themselves re-elected.
We have to stand ready to put them out of office.
Then you are politically ignorant child. You have neither the grounds nor votes. So shut up with the pathetically childish ranting. You don't get to impeach anyone just because you don't agree with his polices. Grow the heck up. Politics isn't about getting 100% of your personal emotional whimsy granted.
The immigration bill is certainly not dead. It’s in surgery. The White House and both parties in the Senate want some kind of immigration bill before ‘08, and they’ll carve it into something that can win enough votes to pass.
Get ready for the Battle of the Bulge. The think we will wear down. I hope we can win the next round. We need to be all over the next attempt. I am hoping for some big things from the American people.
Jim Robinson: "If theyre here illegally today, and a bill makes them not illegal tomorrow, its AMNESTY!"
EVERYONE needs to read this......it’s NOT OVER!
Bush has intentionally failed to properly enforce our immigration and border control laws for 6+ years. That is malfeasance of office, which is certainly impeachable.
Also because of this failure to enforce, he has allowed an unknown number of Islamic terrorists into the country. That is a violation of his Oath of Office to protect us against our enemies. That is unarguably impeachable.
I agree that the talk of impeachment is silly. But I think the Republicans in Congress are going to be loathe to take up amnesty again, any time soon.
I am not calling for President Bush to be removed from office. But I would hope he realizes that he gave his best push for amnesty here, and that any future efforts are doomed to fail even more miserably.
Note to MNJohnnie: Stop the name calling on this thread.
I suspected it is not over- it is a breather.
Mexican nationals have no allegiance to the United States.
Mexico is not our friend and never has been.
Mexico opposes our war efforts.
Mexico is an enemy.
Mexico sucks.
That point was passed around 1934 during the Imperial Presidency of F.D.R.
It is unlikely to happen now.
