Major Garrett has sources on both sides of the aisle telling him we can write the bill's obituary. Roll call going on now.
I agree with Senator Sessions, except when he says we should treat the Mexican Invaders with “dignity.” They want to takeover our country! They deserve no dignity, respect, or kindness. This is the Second Mexican War. Time to wake up!
Give it the Schiavo treatment just to be sure.
YOU'RE the one who said all the politicians should be quacking in their boots because conservatives "have a looooooooooong memory", now you're saying long-term effects are not important, what's important is voting on current events.
The fact some Republicans saved Clinton's butt 8 years ago still effects us today, because of those actions we now have Marc Rich still running llose and now we have HILLARY! ready to move back in the White House.
The fact some Republicans refuse to secure our borders right now will still have long term effects 8 years from now, and we'll still have 30 million people running around here illegally.
Since all your "conservatives with a looooooooooong memory" have conviently forgotten who voted to give Slick's treason a pass in 1999, I question whether all those "conservatives with a looooooooooong memory" will remember in 2018 who voted for a failed amnesty bill in 2007. My experience on FR is they don't remember "Treasonous" bills from 6 monthes ago, let along 8 years ago. Larry Craig voted for amnesty LAST YEAR and he's up for re-election in 2008, where's all the people beating down the door to "Take out Craig" in the next primary?
>> if you're asking me should we replace him today with a more liberal politician who might vote for amnesty in a flash then I'd say no. <<
No, I have never suggested this country would be better served by replacing him with a liberal Democrat. Personally I think we'd be better served if he was replaced in the primary with someone who isn't pro-Clinton and doesn't cozy up to terrorists, but that's just me. I don't need someone who's 100% conservative, just someone who's not a backstabbing twit and a media suckup (King loves WHOEVER is "popular" at that given moment in time) will do fine. Too bad all the conseratives who "never forgot" impeachment have zero motivation to run against him now.
I don't think this country would be better off with replacing a solid pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family, pro-ANWR drilling, pro-tax cuts conservaive like Lindsey Graham with a liberal Democrat, but some conservatives on FR have actually said they "regret" voting for Graham over socialist Democrat Alex Sanders in the general election, and will "never again" vote for him under ANY circumstances. If you agree we'd be better served with an abortion-loving surrender monkey RAT representing South Carolina, then I guess you'd be on that bandwagon, if not, I hope you would support Graham in the general election.
>> Dorgan is a democrat and probably sided with Clinton too but he played a big part in killing this bill. Better him than Graham or Kyl if that's what it comes down to. <<
I disagree. The fact you'd rather have Dorgan than Graham or Kyl in the Senate shows why Harry Reid is Majority Leader. You prefer people who vote your way 10% of the time over people who vote for your way 90% of the time if the 10%ers agree with you on a pet issue. Dorgan may be right on immigration but he is a slimebag socialist on the other 90% of the issues, Jon Kyl stands head and shoulders above him. If the Senate was filled with 100 Byron Dorgans, America would be a socialist state domestically and would have surrended to Al-Quada internationally by now. If the Senate was filled with 100 Jon Kyl's, we wouldn't need an amnesty bill because the border wall would be completed and the welfare state would have been dismantled a long time ago.
Mexico does not ban them from coming back... hint, hint, hint.
Put them on luxury coach buses headed back South, accompanied by a brass band blaring the Mexico national anthem all the way. Would that be enough dignity?
...and some of our elected leaders want to give our country to them.
That's right, I did and why it was pointed out that Long Island doesn't have very many conservative voters, it's a liberal district. It's conservative voters that have long memories and they won't forget what Graham did. SC is by far more conservative than NYC, wouldn't you agree?
If you agree we'd be better served with an abortion-loving surrender monkey RAT representing South Carolina, then I guess you'd be on that bandwagon, if not, I hope you would support Graham in the general election.
Nowhere was that stated, I want Graham and Hagel defeated in the GOP primaries and believe there's a good chance they may be.
The fact you'd rather have Dorgan than Graham or Kyl in the Senate shows why Harry Reid is Majority Leader.
What does it matter who's in the Senate if amnesty gets passed? Do you realize at that point the massive demographic shift caused by such an act would mean that Americans would lose vast control over their destiny? We have Dorgan to partly at least thank that it didn't go through. With friends like Kyl and Graham who needs enemies? Again I prefer and hope they get beat in the primaries by better conservatives.
The first time in U.S. history that a sitting President is REMOVED from office would have little effect? I doubt it. More likely it would have sent shockwaves through this country and the fact the article of impeachment barred Clinton from EVER holding office again, it would have killed any attempt at a "comeback". If Hillary is sworn in come January 2009, come back and tell me that her husband getting away with treason a decade earlier had "little effect" on the future of America.
>> This traitorous amnesty plus bill had the potential of being the most destructive legislation in the history of our Country. <<
Do you forget that it takes TWO houses of Congress to create any laws? If all the "Treasonous" Senators like Kyl and Graham had passed this shamnesty bill, it would probably have zero effect because it was DOA in the House, as was last year's amnesty. Nancy Pelosi did not have the votes to get it through the House. Despite what people claim, the fact is most of the new freshmen members of Congress were either Dems who got elected by promising no amnesty, or a handful of immigration hardliner conservatives who bucked the Dem tide like Brian Bilbray and Tim Walburg. So it doesn't matter how much John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Jon Kyl, etc., promoted this bill, it's chance of becoming law was slim to none.
>> Comparisons between the two are absurd. <<
You're right. The damange Clinton did to America in 8 years (and the potential of having Hillary herself run this country from 2009-2017) is far worse than anything some goofy 300 page "compromise" bill trying to pander to every group on immigration could do. But hey, I bet Marc Rich is really glad all those "Conservatives who never forget" are ok with the Republican officials who saved Clinton's butt.
It all comes 'round again .... And welcome back WarDaddy and Travis
No, it’s not covering my butt. I thought the predictions of long term Republican dominance were wishful thinking then and I said so then. I thought that it was possible if Republicans did the right things, but I never had any faith that they would.
I don’t see any way to say that 1980 laid the groundwork for 1994.
The tax cuts are temporary. Better than not at all, but hardly a groundbreaking victory. If you see the porous southern border as part of the war on terror (I certainly do) then the prosecution of the WOT is seriously lacking.
Am I pessimistic about our prospects? You bet. Only because I am being realistic. Until you face the reality of the situation, the will to pursue the hard steps needed to improve our prospects will not exist.
As far as your “border only people” comment, do you seriously think that any of these other issues will mean squat after another 20-40 million illiterate Mexicans get in and continue propagating? Prioritize. Stop the illegals or none of these other things you (and I) consider important will happen.
ROTFLMBO !!! Awesome !
Byron Dorgan was anti NAFTA
NAFTA lead to this massive invasion from Mexico that the elites of Mexico and America are fostering. NAFTA was the first step
FYI Dorgan is a conservative Democrat. The loony left liberals in this case are Kyl and Lindsey Graham. They are very liberal in pissing on American sovereignty and giving away American citizenship, green cards and visas to millions of illegal aliens
Is that the new academic way of doing things. Lee's letters clearly show he is torn and following his heart and homeland: the state of Virginia.
Notice all the worship heaped on Fred Thompson & Zell Miller, AFTER freepers vowed to "never again" support ANYONE in the primary who voted for McCain-Feingold. I hear this "never again" stuff all the time.
Looks like you've been on FR for years as well, so you know people here have bitched constantly about John McCain since 2000. The way they talk about him here, you would think he's the devil incarnate. AZ is far more conservative than NYC, wouldn't you agree? Perhaps you can name the "conservatiev primary challenger" who took on McCain in 2004. (Hint: There wasn't one)
We DID come extremely close to taking out Lincoln Chafee and Arlen Specter in the primary, but those guys voted with the enemy ALL the time instead of being wrong on one piece of legislation that your "conservatives with a loooooooong memory" focused on. If you focus all your time and resources going after people who are constantly voting the wrong way, you have a good chance at defeating them in the primary. If you waste time hurling banana peels at people who agree with you 90% of the time but voted the "wrong" way on some piece of legislation a year ago, you will get no where.
You heard it here first.
Up until now I had little knowledge of Byron Dorgan’s record but I’ll put him up against some of these wishy RINOs any day. Graham sounds more like a Northeastern liberal. How did he ever get past the voters of SC?
We have to focus on defeating those who vote the wrong on a consistent basis. After we defeat them, we can focus on defeating those who vote the wrong way sometimes. The priority has to be on those who are always, or almost always, Liberals.
Graham or any other politician could vote my way 99.9% of the time but if he or she supports amnesty I want them out. The issue is that important though you don't apparently seem to think so.
Dorgan was anti NAFTA from way back. I'll have to look at his voting record
Lindsey Graham is a fine example of the leftward shift in America where this prissy boy can get elected Senator from the deep south state of South Carolina
We have won this firefight but I am not laying down my weapons yet ‘cause the war is a long way from being won. It’s time to clean up, have a beer and take a nap.
We’ll need all the help we can muster up because it is going to get nasty before we’re done here.
I am quite sure that we won’t be seeing any posts before the next election about voting for someone just because he’s a Republican. I am done supporting Quislings.
I don’t believe I used the word “treason”. Interesting you bring that up in a post directed at me.
BTW, among my examples the Al-Quida Bill of Rights? It was right up there pretty close to this and Miers for me. So was the House and senate passing embryonic funding.
The difference between those vs. Miers/Amnesty is that it can still be reversed at any time.
SC judges can exist 30 years.
Amnesty for 30 million isn’t going to be able to be undone.
So, yes, I may fume about what else they do (rightly so) but I’ve only lost it on three issues. removing troops from Iraq. Miers. Amnesty. All cannot be undone. That is what separates these issues from others.
And Kyl FAILED on a PROMISE he made to win re-election on an issue that could not be undone. That single act destroyed any trust I had in him, and tarnished his prior record. You want me to forgive him. Well I havn’t heard Kyl begging for forgiveness. maybe you shouldn’t be running iterference for the man, calling what he did a “mistake” until he decides to embrace that viewpoint himself.
