Senator Bernie Sanders Slams Immigration Bill
self | 06/07/07 | gas0linealley

Senator Bernie Sanders addressed the US Senate concerning the proposed Immigration Bill. I listened to his remarks on C-Span2. He was critical of the bill and pointed out the damage that has been done to America by the business interests which are pushing for the bill, and the damage that it will cause. He offered an amendment that will prohibit corporations from trying to import foreign labor, while at the same time firing Americans.

I've never heard Senator Sanders speak before. He was eloquent and brave. I hope that all Americans who are concerned about the immigration debacle will have the opportunity to hear or read what he said about this terrible legislation.

Unfortunately, I don't know how you can get a transcript, or hear his speech, perhaps someone here can tell us.

Righto. Sanders hit it out of park. Worth a read if possible. Call him socialist but, whatever, he represents Americans more than capitalist world citizen corporations.

Old mill towns, like mine, have an area of mansions where the managers lived, and some even bigger mansions where the owners lived, but they weren't very far from the homes of their workers. Today, it is "Out of sight, out of mind".

President Reagan signed an amnesty bill that opened the door to the flood. Shall we remove his halo?

Bad form.

Comparing Reagan's sins to Bernie Sander's is like comparing a muscrat to an elephant. Reagan made his share of mistakes (like all humans do) but that's the difference - they were mistakes. With Sanders, they are premeditated and deliberate.

“Come again? The man is an America-hating communist piece of garbage. I think it’s clear the rats have set up their strategy to kill the bill and leave the carcus on the doorstep at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Fine by me. I know it’s not over till it’s over, but it’s appearing more and more likely by the hour.”

Senator Reid has repeatedly called this Immigration Bill: “The President’s Bill”. Do you think that President Bush will come out of the Whitehouse and pick up his dead pet?

“Gee - zus! Even the socialists are against it! I think that leaves just Ted Kennedy and John McCain, take from that what you will.”

Follow the money?

“I gotta ask....
Has this entire immigration reform fan-dance been a plot by the President and Karl Rove to totally destroy John McCain’s presidential chances? ‘Cause he’s the one really twisting in the wind now....”

I’m not counting any chickens yet.

>> Hey being right twice a day is a lot better than produced by Bush, McCain and Graham. <<

You actually think OPENLY SOCIALIST Bernie Sanders (the guy who thinks the Democrat Party is too right-wing for his tastes) is "right" more than Bush, McCain, or Graham? LMAO!!

So when Bush, Graham, et. al, overthrew the Talban, supported ANWR drilling, supported school vouchers, supported right to pray in public, supported Israel, opposed making gun companies liable for violent wackjobs, opposed embryoic stem cell funding, opposed affirmative action, opposed gay marriage, etc., etc., they were all wrong and your boy Bernie was right?

Great. Head on over here if you agree more with Bernie Sanders more than George Bush. They could use more abortion loving, gun-grabbing marxists. Socialist Party U.S.A.

Labels have been proven to be misleading. His action today should assure him a fond place in the hearts of true Americans.

LOL. I guess there is something wrong with my heart... or maybe I'm just not a true American like good ol' Bernie.

“Sanders is FOR amnesty i.e. the “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens.”

Your own reply contains the Senator’s quote, and it doesn’t say “THE path...”, rather it says “A path...”. That is a big difference because it doesn’t mean that he endorsed the scheme in the current bill.

“At what personal risk? What do you mean? How is taking shots at “big business” in Vermont aside from the dairy industry there or the (Castro loving) “Ben and Jerry’s” a risk in any way, shape or form? The Sanders amendment is utterly pernicious. It will force American hi-tech businesses to either cease to be competitive, or to relocate in other countries where there is easier access to expertise.”

Senator Sanders took shots at some of the world’s biggest corporations, specifically mentioning Exon and Dell. I heard him describe his amendment and I think you’ve got it wrong.

Granted, but that seems beside the point. Why should illegal aliens have any “path to citizenship”?

Besides, Sanders does in fact support that aspect of THIS bill--- although he says "a" rather than "the", he is referring specifically to it; here is Sanders, in his own words:

It addresses the contentious and difficult issue of how we respond to the reality that there are some 12 million illegal immigrants in this country today, and carves out a path which eventually leads to citizenship, which I also support.

You use the phrase "our side", but if you want Bernie Sanders held up as a symbol of Patriotism, I am not on your side at all.

That's like saying that because Osama Bin Laden thinks that pre-marital sex is wrong, that he should be held up as the symbol of morality.

Bernie Sanders is a avowed socialist who wants nothing less than the destruction of our Republican form of government and the eradication of our Constitutional rights.

He may be right on this bill, but he is not on my side at all.
