During a nationally broadcast forum Monday evening on faith and politics Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.) attacked the free market and told listeners in that order to attain energy independence and provide universal health coverage, it would be necessary to “take away from some people.”
“An uninsured person who goes to the hospital is more likely to die than an insured person,” Clinton said. “I mean, that is a fact. So what do we do? We have to build a political consensus. And that requires people to give up a little bit of their own turf in order to create this common ground.”
She went on, “The same with energy. You know, we can’t keep talking about our dependence on foreign oil and the need to deal with global warming and the challenge that it poses to our climate and to God’s creation and just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people.”
Clinton made these comments near the end of her allotted 15-minute portion of the event.
Clinton also said that “the adult society has failed” young people “who are tremendously influenced by the media culture and by the celebrity culture.”
“I think that we have failed them in our churches, our schools and our government,” she said. “And I certainly think the free market has failed. We’ve all failed.”
The New York senator said something similar to “taking things away from some people” at a June 2004 private fundraising event in San Francisco. There, Associated Press reporter Beth Fouhy wrote that Clinton told attendees Democrats should take money back from taxpayers who benefited from President Bush’s tax cuts.
Clinton told her donors, “We're not coming to you, many of whom are well enough off that actually the tax cuts may have helped you, and say 'we're going to give you more.' We're saying, 'you know what, for America to get back on track and be fiscally responsible, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you.”
She added, “We’re going to take things away form you on behalf of the common good.”
On the campaign trail, each of the three leading Democrats running for their party’s nomination for President, Clinton, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), have said he or she would repeal the Bush tax cuts to help finance universal health care.
The June 4 event was hosted by Sojourners, a social justice movement for progressive Christians. Founder Jim Wallis is the author of “God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It.”
CNN’s Soledad O’Brien moderated the forum. It aired on that station Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Edwards and Obama also participated.
Therefore . . . for every person who is admitted into a hospital, we should start at the feet and cut off various appendages of his/her body until their weight is down to 150 pounds.
Like virginity, Bill????
What a lying loser.
50%? I would say 100%.
You may be right, but I contend this woman is never going to be President.
L
She is simply and communist and ANYONE who stays home because they don’t like the Republican candidate, is a complete and utter FOOL.
She’s admitting that she favors government redistributing money from those who have some and giving it to those who don’t have as much. Classic communism.
She doesn’t have to worry, however, the media will never allow any one to think that she likes the philosophy of Marx.
Edwards and Obama are forcing her to give us at least a one-liner a week that can be used against her in the general election. This one will be one of the better ones.
This woman is going to start a civil war if she gets into office.
That’s something lefties never had a response to when they complained about Bush losing the popular vote in 2000 -
their hero Bill NEVER got a majority of the popular vote in two elections.
I think that we have failed them in our churches, our schools and our government, she said. And I certainly think the free market has failed. Weve all failed.
Yep, lemme see, one example:
Teaching children that fornication and adultery are OK. Even for a married President.
Well, the easy way to fix that is to randomly kill some people in hospitals who do have insurance. I'm from the government and I'm here to help you put this pillow over your face.
Now, as to whether this is factaully correct: Most people who die in hospitals are probably over 65. Old people are just more likely to be sick and die than younger people. Nearly everyone over 65 is covered my Medicare (unless they have avoided filling out the forms). It seems very likely that people with insurance are more likely to die in a hospital than people without insurance.
She went on, The same with energy. You know, we cant keep talking about our dependence on foreign oil and the need to deal with global warming and the challenge that it poses to our climate and to Gods creation and just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people.
Maybe the people who own the oil reserves should have them taken away. Wait, most of those belong to the government in Alaska or offshore.
"Nurse, do you have the list of uninsured patients? We have to be sure to provide them with substandard care. I realize it might cause us to get sued, but we hate the uninsured so much that we are willing to pay that price!"
Has she considered that other factors might be at play here? Different groups approach end-of-life issues in different ways. I had a good friend who died of cancer. She had a loving family who arranged things so she could get hospice care when staying at home. She died a peaceful death in her own bed.
Now imagine someone of the same age who had the same kind of cancer but happened to be homeless and unwilling to apply for Medicaid. (It happens.) That person would have been unlikely to seek help for the disease until it progressed to its final stages. In the final weeks of the disease, the hospital probably would have tried to keep her there, if only because she had no other place to go. She would have died in the hospital.
The urban poor (who are often uninsured) have a higher chance of being shot or hit by a car than the average person. These people will also get listed as "dying in the hospital." If they had been insured, they'd have been just as dead.
Ms. Clinton is really abusing statistics here.
The thought of this communist whore becoming our president makes me physically ill.
If you really believe Mitt Romney, Duncan Hunter, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Tommy Thompson, Jim Gilmore, Rudy Giuliani are going to cut any major departments or programs that take from some of us to give to others, I have a bridge to sell you. Even Ron Paul has been known to “bring home the bacon,” apparently.
It is true that some will govern more conservatively than others, but I wouldn’t look for any major pruning back of socialist government if I were you. If the Republican who wins the White House does initiate such cuts, I will be presently surprised.
Why not? They all DO love the philosophy (love of WISDOM?) of Marxism.
Far too many people in the country, including HillBillary, are genuine communists, and they know they rather like the commie countries. They can never say much good about the “capitalist” US. Please note this. It’s why we have so many scary politicos - there are too many scary people, period.
If I manage to steal $1 million from Hillary's bank account when I could have stolen $2 million, can I avoid jail by claiming I gave her the $1 million difference?
She should start with her husband who has reportedly made $43 million in speakers fees over the past three years. What is just? Say, a “gift” of $30 or $40 million out of this to the deserving?
That’s what I thought. Emergency room care is not denied to the uninsured.
