Strong feelings on bill hard to explain
By any measure, the Pittsburgh region isn't attracting significant numbers of immigrants -- legal or illegal. But that doesn't mean Pittsburghers have no opinion on one of the most controversial national issues of the day.
"Everywhere I go, every meeting like this, that's the first question that's asked," U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, told a packed room at the Shaler municipal building Wednesday night. "In every town I visit, when I go to the street corner, somebody's going to come up to me and ask, 'What do you think about this immigration bill?' "
The bill, which Congress will take up again this week, would create a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants. And Mr. Altmire doesn't like it.

Maybe this democrat should talk to chambliss and isackson.
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.
Quotas for Mexicans.
This bill is deader than Saddam. Any politician who has a brain will run from this obscenity like the wind, as soon as humanly possible. I truly hope some good Republicans don’t get taken down because they were too “Beltwayed” to see what’s going on out in the real world.
Hey, Republican politicians! Run, don’t walk, AWAY from this nightmnare.
The Heritage Foundation is estimating that the total cost to us over the lifetime of each illegal will be slightly over $1 million. Imagine the staggering overall cost of this immigration bill if you multiply it times the total number of illegals that will result from passage of this bill, given the following info.
The “Z visas” also pave the way for “chain immigration” allowing an immigrant to bring in relatives. Previously chain immigration was limited to immediate family members. New legislation will open it to include possibly more than 11 family members of any relation. Once those family members become resident they too will be able to bring in their extended families and so on.
As I have posted in other threads on immigration, even the 12 million number was a total guess by somebody in D.C. and was not even remotely based on any factual data. About a month or two ago, I read an article (I had thought by one of the founders of the Minuteman) who had worked with one of the think tanks to attempt to derive a better number. His estimate was between 35 and 55 million. But the scary part about this amnesty bill is how it expands the number of illegals whatever the number. Let’s assume for discussion that the number is as low as 20 million...watch what happens under this bill. In 1986 just less than 3 million illegals were granted an amnesty (US citizenship); they each brought up on average 5 more family members who also instantly became US citizens, so 3 million X 5 = 15 million + the original 3 mil = 18 million. Now consider the 20 million that have come up since 1986 get amnesty under this new bill, and they haul up 5 more each: 100 million + that 20 = 120,000,000. And what if the existing number is 50 million, the new total will become 250+50=300 million new neighbors. Now consider where they fall economically? At the bottom, unlike legal immigration where we now expect something of value, these illegals bring nothing but 3rd grade educations and the trappings of a failed culture, like grafiti and 3rd world diseases. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TO AMNESTY!!!!

Is it amnesty? The bill's most controversial component would allow any undocumented immigrants who came to the United States before Jan. 1 to gain legal status by paying $5,000 in fees and demonstrating that they don't have criminal records. They also must complete a brief "touchback" trip in their home countries.
That not the amnesty we are talking about!... Please follow
They enter the country illegally...that a crime
They work in the country illegally...that a crime
They forged document and SSN or stoled ID's ( some one stoled ID and been using my SSN)...that a crime
They sign this bill... and the Z visa let's illegally become legal in 24 hr.. and all is forgiven.....THAT AMNESTY!!

and “being invisible”?”
In California, a bling man could trip over 20 of them every day!
The legislation in the Senate clearly prefers illegal aliens over legal immigrants. (Tells you what kind of housekeepers Senator Specter likes).

When the hell did 50 million illegals become “so few”?
Here are some other illegal alien crimes:
Working for cash and paying no taxes (estimated that 40% do this)
They drive without drivers licenses
Drive without registering vehicles
Drive without auto insurance.
“Mr. Altmire doesn’t like it”
...but like a good democrat he will find a way to vote for it.
Damn, I truly hope most FReepers don't think like you.
I would hope that most, if not all, would consider a "Beltwayed good republican" to be an ex-republican, certainly not one worth supporting.
Yeah, good luck with that, Bunky.
